While some other studios go into hibernation with their projects over the holidays, Guerilla Games and Sony use the contemplative time to give us detailed insights into Horizon Forbidden West. The latest sneak peak (or better snake peak) introduces us to Aloys’ most impressive enemy to date: the robot snake Slitherfang.

New video for Horizon Forbidden West: In the trailer for the Game Awards, we were already able to get a first impression of the giant snake, but only saw it for a second as it winds around a stone pillar. However, a new clip shows the beast fighting our protagonist (via Gameinformer):

All skills of slither catch

Whether Hercules, Harry Potter or Resident Evil, the fear of large snakes seems to have been instilled in many people in the cradle. And guerrillas take advantage of this by giving Slitherfang terrifying animations and attacks. In an exclusive hands-off preview, game informers were able to watch a fight against the robot snake. They were able to observe these attacks:

  • Acid spit: In a canister in the snake’s throat is corrosive acid that rains down on Aloy over a long distance. However, a well-aimed arrow can prevent this attack.
  • Rattlesail: Slitherfang rattles its tail like a rattlesnake, announcing its attacks. However, this is also how she distributes electric shocks. If you shoot the tail, you can use it as a weapon against the monster yourself.
  • Ultrasonic: But that’s not all. At the neck of the snake there is a kind of “comb” that can be extended. This not only looks threatening, but also sends out sound waves that paralyze Aloy and make it vulnerable.

Deadly and Fast: It’s not just the attacks themselves that make slithering so dangerous. Thanks to its size, the snake has an extremely long range, of course, and yet the cattle are very fast. Keeping on the move and making use of the environment will therefore be of vital importance to Aloy.

Horizon Forbidden West: Let’s Go to the City

With Horizon Forbidden West, guerrillas seem to want to go one better in all areas. This not only applies to the opponents, but also to the game world. NPCs should appear much more natural than in the predecessor, and there will obviously be more lively cities.

New screenshots show Aloy in a medium-sized settlement whose marketplace is overrun by dozens of people. And the NPCs don’t just stand on the sidelines waiting to be approached – they chat and haggle at the stalls like they would in real life.

Horizon Forbidden West will be released on February 18, 2022 for PS5 and PS4.

How do you like all the new features in Forbidden West? And what do you think of slither catching?
