The latest package in Star Citizen will cost more than € 35,000 – Still no release date

Star Citizen regularly sells a “Legatus package” – with almost all digital ships that can be purchased in the MMO. The massive SF epic still has no release date. The latest package now breaks the price limits again – CIG wants $ 40,000, more than € 35,000, for the package. The package was created at the request of the fans, it was said in 2018.

What’s in the package?

  • The exact content of “Legatus 2951” is not yet clear, but based on previous offers one can strongly suspect that almost all ships and upgrades available in Star Citizen will be included.
  • The previous package; Legatus Pack 2950 (a mere $ 36,500), comprised more than 150 ships and all sorts of upgrades, items and special services.
  • In order to be able to buy the package, you first have to be a member of the “Chairman’s Club”. To get in there you have to have spent $ 1,000 in the game.

“Biggest Package” price increased from $ 15,000 to $ 40,000

How has the price of this package changed over time?

The price went up steadily:

  • Even before the 1st Legatus package, Star Citizen offered a “Completionist” package with every ship in the game for $ 15,000.
  • In May 2018, the package of 117 ships and 163 other content was still $ 27,000
  • In December 2019, the “2949” Legatus Pack was available for $ 35,000
  • The Legatus Pack 2950 then already cost $ 36,500
  • The new package will cost $ 40,000

What does Star Citizen say about the package? When CIG first offered this package in 2018, they explained in an interview what was behind it:

The new package was offered at the request of the hardcore part of the community. The package was therefore not created in a vacuum, but as an answer to a demand.

You have “very passionate supporters” who don’t see Star Citizen as a typical game, but rather see it as a dream project that they really want to happen.

How is this discussed? The general stance on Star Citizen’s Reddit is snappy cynicism to the point of shrugging. There are statements like:

  • “For the money you can house and feed a developer for 6 to 8 months. Please think of the developers. “
  • “Hey thank you. I didn’t see it at all. I bought one for myself, my wife and my dog! “
  • A user quotes a well-known meme: “Shut up and take my … Wait, how much should that cost ?!”
  • “There’s no ship in there, that’s just a picture of a ship-pack!” – the comment alludes to a current controversy that Star Citizen does not give away ships as a “giveaway”, only wallpaper of ships.

In general, one sees these packages in the community rather relaxed. The tenor is: You can only fly one ship anyway and it is not necessary to get every ship in the game ..

What about a release date? Poorly. After Star Citizen repeatedly called release dates, which they then cashed in, they no longer give out any official data. A roadmap as to when which new content should come is currently enough until the end of 2023, but a release is not in sight.

At the moment, Star Citizen is playable in a test version, which is expanded with a new update about every 3 months.
