After CES 2022 I finally have a reason to buy a new gaming laptop

AMD presented a lot of innovations at CES 2022. The new mobile processors are definitely a highlight. MeinMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann is certain: Now there is a reason to buy a gaming laptop.

This is my current situation: When I play and work, I feel most comfortable on the desktop PC. But I’ve already been on the go and then grab my notebook when I want to work on the go or play a game.

So far, I’ve been working and playing on the go on a 6-year-old notebook. With a maximum resolution of 1366 × 768, the device has not met my requirements for a long time and the dedicated graphics card creates modern titles in the best case with medium details. But so far I have had no reason to buy a new notebook.

This is what happened now: On the occasion of CES 2022, AMD presented its latest generation of mobile processors with Ryzen 6000 Mobile. This is the next generation after Ryzen 4000 Mobile and brings a lot of improvements.

Because AMD eliminates some of the weak points of the old generation and gives me a lot of reasons to invest money now.

AMD gives Ryzen 6000 important improvements for the future

What kind of improvements are these? If you look at the general performance of the new Ryzen processors, you will probably be disappointed at first, the performance increases only slightly compared to the previous generation. Here the improvement is on average 10 percent more performance.

Nevertheless, there are a lot of important improvements in the new processors. Because with Ryzen 6000 Mobile, laptops get several important upgrades:

• With USB 4, AMD supports the next step in USB devices
• There is also support for PCIe 4.0 on the notebook
• The third upgrade is DDR5 support

In addition, AMD is now finally relying on the new graphics generation RDNA2 for mobile processors and no longer on Vega. That means more power if you want to gamble on the go than with the previous generation.

Another improvement is better energy efficiency. This means that in the future I will be able to watch films or series longer with my notebook before the battery of my device runs out. Especially if, like me, you like to take the train and you have to fight for every free socket here.

There is hardly any reason to wait to buy a notebook

This is why the upgrade is so important: For me and all future notebook buyers, Ryzen 6000 means one thing above all else: All important functions such as USB 4, DDR5 and Co. are included with the release and I don’t have to do without anything.

Above all, it includes all the important features and functions that you would expect in a modern device. That means, I can invest a little more money, because I can use my device for several years, as the technology should be up-to-date for several years, since DDR5 and USB 4 are still very young.

Anyone who, like me, has been waiting to buy a gaming notebook up to now has no reason to wait any longer.

When should the first devices appear? AMD had announced that the first gaming notebooks with Ryzen 6000 will appear as early as spring 2022. In the best case scenario, we can buy the first notebooks with the new AMD processor as early as March or April.
