2 of the biggest gaming events in 2022 will only take place online – you have to know that about E3 and Summer Game Fest

The organizers of E3, one of the largest gaming events in the world, have announced that the expo will once again only take place online. At the same time, the Summer Game Fest was announced, also only online. We at MeinMMO summarize.

What did the E3 announce? The organizers of the major gaming event have announced that E3 2022 will again only take place online. The reason given is the risk of corona and the omicron variant.

People are afraid that such a big event could mutate into a super spreader despite hygiene measures. It was therefore decided to hold the event as an online event.

After E3 2020 was completely canceled, 2022 will be the second year in a row in which the big gaming event relies on an online presentation.

What else happened Just a few moments after the announcement of E3, the Summer Game Fest also confirmed its return in 2022. The event took place for the first time in 2020 and was intended to function as a kind of supplement to E3.

In 2021, the Summer Game Fest ran just one day before E3. Many fans therefore thought it was part of the fair itself. Strictly speaking, E3 and Summer Game Fest have nothing to do with each other and are independent events.

When do the events take place? There is not yet an exact date for both of the events. The Summer Game Fest currently only specifies summer 2022 as a date. However, as usual, E3 will take place in June.

We assume that the Summer Game Fest will again choose a date around E3, so we estimate that both events will take place in June. We will of course keep you up to date on this.

Moderator Geoff Keighley announced the return of the SGF with a tweet

What can you expect from the events?

What is the E3 anyway? The name E3 stands for Electronic Entertainment Expo. It is a trade fair that focuses on gaming and where there are usually tons of new announcements. It usually takes place in Los Angeles, but in 2021 it will be an online-only event.

The fair, a little different from Gamescom, is aimed more at publishers and game manufacturers than at gamers themselves. Nevertheless, you can always expect exciting press conferences from various publishers, in which they tell and show what’s new.

So there are not only complete new announcements, but also new trailers for already known projects and sometimes exciting information about the games that you would otherwise not get.

What is the Summer Game Fest? The Summer Game Fest is presented by Prime Gaming and is an event that also focuses on gaming. It will be moderated again in 2022 by Geoff Keighley, whom you may already know from the Game Awards, the E3 or the Gamescom Opening Night Live.

The event took place for the first time in 2020 and was intended to cushion the lull in new announcements due to the elimination of the E3. While big publishers like Sony or EA simply put on their own events, the Summer Game Fest concentrated on presenting the games that no one else would have noticed.

Among other things, you can again expect many titles from smaller studios and indie games at the Summer Game Fest. Unlike E3, the Game Festival’s livestream will only take place on one day, but the event itself was around a month long in 2021 and offered even more than the new announcements.

Many of the games could even be played at the Summer Game Festival or more information about the games that interested you could be obtained.

Both events are very relevant for gamers and should again show many exciting innovations and games in 2022 that no one has suspected yet. What do you think of E3 becoming a complete online event and do you hope that it can be held there again in 2023? Feel free to write us a comment here at MeinMMO.

By the way, we still have 5 games for you that particularly impressed us at E3 2021.
