Leak shows the character creator of Elden Ring and he looks just as crazy as in Dark Souls

Like the other titles from FromSoftware, Elden Ring will offer a comprehensive character editor. Now a video leak shows what options you have when creating your figure. Of course you can also create stupid characters like you know from Bloodborne or Dark Souls.

What kind of leak is that? The video was published on YouTube by the user ER-SA. It shows the creation of a character with the new editor from Elden Ring. The version is unfinished and partly still flawed.

Nevertheless, it already offers a good impression of what will be possible with the editor. In addition to typical things such as gender and body measurements, you can extensively customize facial details and colors.

There is also a little glimpse into the standard characters and you can even see some of the classes that you can choose. For example, there will be a soldier and a champion class.

But remember: This is an unfinished version of the editor. Numerous texts are still missing and we do not know to what extent the possible editing options also work in the full version.

It remains to be seen whether, apart from the missing texts and the bugs that have yet to be removed, changes will be made until the release.

In the video, the user follows an old tradition of FromSoftware games: create stupid-looking, absurd characters.

Better models, but enough leeway for absurd creations

What kind of tradition is that? Like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Elden Ring offers multiplayer in the form of co-op and PvP. Accordingly, it is customary to use the character editor to the maximum for this and to create crazy characters as possible.

Online one meets numerous strange to repulsive characters, where one wonders from which dimension these monstrosities could originate.

Here you can take a look at some examples from Dark Souls 3, which the reddit user Vethalos (via reddit) has published. We also used one of the figures for our cover picture:

However, the cheat engine was used to override the individual controls in the editor and to be able to change the facial features much more strongly.

In the leak, however, such blatant changes are possible without tools. If these controls in the Elden Ring editor are also the same in the final game, no cheat engine should be necessary here.

It remains to be seen what will happen before the release. Numerous commentators are already enthusiastic about the character creation.

Players enjoy more options and better models

This is what fans say about the leak: The feedback on the video is almost entirely positive. Above all, the better models of the character are praised. While it was still common in earlier games that the standard characters looked strange and rarely reminded of “real” people, it looks different here.

At least the user ARTEMISIA writes on YouTube: “That can’t be real? The standard characters actually look human! “

Many praise the significant progress made over Dark Souls 3, especially when it comes to the details and appearance of the hair. Overall, there are significant improvements.

Some even find that Elden Ring’s character editor is superior to the one from the remake of Demon’s Souls for the PS5: “I’ll be honest: It looks as good or even better than the” Demon’s Souls “remake visually in the Character creation. “

Whether this is really the case is probably simply a question of taste. Here is a video with the character editor from the remake as a comparison:

What do you mean with that? The remake is the spiritual predecessor of Dark Souls, which appeared in 2007 and was published in 2020 for the PS5 as a graphically particularly complex remake.

This remake is graphically clearly superior to the other FromSoftware titles and in a direct comparison it also looks better than Elden Ring, at least in terms of details and general quality.

Overall, it can be said that the editor of Elden Ring is likely to be a significant step forward compared to its spiritual predecessors. But prepare yourself mentally to meet a number of obscure characters online again.

When does Elden Ring appear? The action RPG is coming to PC, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4 on February 25, 2022.
