New MMORPG comes in 2022, completely dispenses with PvP – see first gameplay here
With Embers Adrift, a new MMORPG is to appear for the PC in 2022, which will fully focus on PvP. The developers have now given an update on the current status and also published a video with new gameplay.
What kind of game is this? Embers Adrift is a sandbox MMORPG set in a medieval world. PvP shouldn’t even exist in the current alpha stage, although the developers won’t rule out a duel function for fun battles among each other in the future.
But the focus is clearly on PvE:
- The game dispenses with classes, but lets you choose your weapons and skills yourself. However, there is a Holy Trinity + consisting of Tank, Healer, DD and Crowd Control.
- There will be no larger quest hubs and boring farming tasks should be done by the NPCs themselves. All quests in the game are designed to tell a story and bring greater rewards at the end.
- In Embers Adrift, group play is said to be important. There are dungeons, raids and group content in the open world. Those who want to travel alone can do so, but will face some challenges. Part of the story should also take place in group instances.
- As a sandbox MMORPG, crafting should also play an important role.
- There are some elements that should provide more immersion, including the absence of a mini map, superfluous tooltips and a reduced interface.
In general, Embers Adrift advertises that you should experience adventures with friends that you would later tell each other around a campfire.
How is Embers Adrift financed? Here, too, the MMORPG deviates a little from the current games. There will be a subscription that must be taken out in order to play Embers Adrift. In return, however, there will be no real money shop.
What’s new now? In a new State of the Game, the developers talked about the current state of Embers Adrift. The game is still in a closed alpha.
However, the developers have once again confirmed the release for “later in 2022” and also released 4 minutes of new gameplay, which we have included for you here:

Where is Embers Adrift right now? The MMORPG is currently in a closed alpha, to which you only get access if you buy a pre-order package for 50 euros. This is the only package currently on offer.
The closed alpha also only takes place during certain play sessions and is provided with an NDA. One of the developers’ first goals for 2022 is to keep Alpha running 24/7.
There were a few changes to the game in December, including the following:
- The first 6 skills are now unlocked within the first 10 levels. Before doing this, you had to complete the first 20 levels.
- There is now a position bonus in the combat system. When attacking enemies from the side or from behind, there are different advantages depending on the weapon you are wielding.
- The character editor and the animations have been revised and improved.
Otherwise the MMORPG is already well developed overall:
- Almost all areas that are planned for the launch have already been completed
- The dungeons should already be complete
- They are currently working on fine-tuning the crafting system
Overall, it sounds as if the development of the MMORPG is already relatively advanced. However, some animations and the general combat system in the latest gameplay video still seem quite stiff. It is unclear whether they will still work on it.
Wasn’t Embers Adrift called anything else? Yes, the game has been working on since 2018, at that time under the name Saga of Lucimia. However, the development team separated from its actual founders in 2021, which was probably one of the reasons for the renaming.
