Player says: Battlefield 2042 has so many bugs that, for once, Steam gave him the money back

Usually, you have to meet very clear deadlines in order to be able to make an exchange on Steam. In the case of the shooter Battlefield 2042, however, one player seems to have caught an exception.

What’s going on at Battlefield 2042? Battlefield 2042 was released in November 2021, but has been confronted with extremely critical feedback since then.

Many players were disappointed with the shooter – and there has been mainly anger in the last few weeks.

According to the current status (January 11th, 7:11 pm) the Steam ratings of the shooter are in the “Mostly negative” section for both “recent reviews” and “all reviews”.

Just 33% of the reviews in both areas are positive.

So it is not surprising that one or the other player might consider exchanging the game. But on Steam you usually have to follow certain rules in order to get a refund.

One player now reports an exception.

Player gets stuck in settings – May return Battlefield

So the rules are actually: You can request a refund on Steam for most purchases on the platform, but for it to work there are a few requirements that must be met.

Two factors in particular are decisive:

  • Refunds must be requested within two weeks of the date of purchase.
  • In addition, the playing time must be less than two hours.

This is what the player reports: In the subreddit for Battlefield 2042, user “Roboserg” reports that he was apparently lucky with his return of the game, although he was actually no longer eligible for the Steam rules.

In a lengthy message, “Roboserg” turned to Steam Support and emphasized that they had been using Steam for over 15 years and had never played a full-price game with so many problems.

The user speaks of a bug that made it impossible to change the controller setting and chased him through settings menus for two hours before actually playing.

Then he played right for almost two hours, but with low FPS and numerous bugs – which is why he requested a refund even though the hourly limit had already been exceeded.

The first attempt was rejected by the support, but after another round of explanations, Steam was gracious – even though the 14 days had already expired.

According to the post, Steam Support spoke of a customer service gesture with which the refund would be granted.

Was sagt Community? The post reacted positively to the reimbursement (via reddit). In view of the still short playing time, other players are happy that a withdrawal was made. At the same time, however, some are annoyed who were less fortunate with their return requests.

Steam has evidently deviated from the norm here. According to the current status, the user seems to be more of an isolated case – it doesn’t look like Battlefield 2042 will be refunded on a large scale.

However, there have been examples in the past where reimbursements of heavily criticized games were requested in large quantities. Cyberpunk 2077 was one of those cases where the console version was even thrown from the PS store because it couldn’t keep what it promised.
