PS4 / PS5: These games had the most downloads on the PS Store in 2021
Sony’s PS Store continued to be busy for downloads in 2021, and these PS4 and PS5 games have been some of the most downloaded.
PS4 and PS5 owners continued to play tons of games in 2021. Many of them used the PlayStation Store to download the titles. Which games get the most downloads will now be revealed in a detailed blog post. It arranges the download lists according to US / Canada, EU, PS4, PS5 and PSVR. You can find the overview here.
This is what it’s about: Every month Sony publishes a list of the download charts from the PlayStation Store. From this, of course, after the end of the year, it is very easy to determine which games get the most downloads over the whole year. This is exactly what Sony is now presenting in the official PlayStation Blog. The whole thing offers few big surprises, on the PS5 and PS4 the sports games and shooters clearly dominate in Germany.

There are few surprises on the PS4 either, but mainly big blockbusters: FIFA, GTA 5, Minecraft, Call of Duty. I wouldn’t necessarily have placed The Crew 2 in the top 10, and neither would The Forest.
Even with the aging mammoth RPGs like RDR 2 or The Witcher 3, it is impressive that they still experience so many downloads after all this time.

The PSVR games are likely to be swirled around sometime soon when the PSVR 2 headset finally appears. Sony recently presented this in detail. The exact specs are now known and we already know that there will be a genuine PSVR 2 exclusive with Horizon: Call of the Mountain.

Interestingly, this only partially coincides with the games that Metacritic or GamePro rated as the best of the year. Maybe that’s simply because a lot of people still prefer to buy their games on physical disc. On the other hand, the taste of the crowd with its habits does not necessarily have to correspond to what testers and reviews consider the best. It also remains unclear whether it is really just downloads that count (which may have been purchased beforehand) or digital purchases.
