The first new co-op shooter of 2022 is coming – everything about the release of Rainbow Six: Extraction
In January, Rainbow Six: Extraction will kick off the gaming year 2022 for shooter fans. The new offshoot of the popular series from Ubisoft will be a co-op shooter. MeinMMO reveals what you think about the release
Extraction, formerly Quarantine, is the spin-off of Rainbow Six Siege’s Outbreak limited-time event. You play in co-op against AI opponents with well-known operators from Siege.
The release is on January 20, 2022. The exact time is still pending.
Rainbow Six Extraction is coming to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Google Stadia.
Extraction will be playable via Game Pass immediately upon release on January 20th. The shooter also appears on Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Ubisoft’s own Ubisoft Connect (formerly Uplay).
The gameplay of Extraction – How to play the new shooter
How does extraction work? You start with a total of 3 characters – called operators – in a mission on one of the 12 maps that are available for release. Each mission is divided into 3 sections.
In each section you have to go through a research station where monsters created by an extraterrestrial parasite are waiting for you. With the special skills of the operators and a lot of consultation, you move deeper into the abandoned complex.
The deeper you go, the harder it gets. Tougher opponents and even mini-bosses await you. If one of your operators dies, he remains missing until you can free him again in another mission. Until that happens, you can’t play him.
At its core, Rainbow Six: Extraction is a shooter and builds on appropriate gameplay. You play with a variety of weapons, from assault rifles and LMGs to grenades and gadgets.
Is there PvP? No. Rainbow Six: Extraction is a pure co-op shooter in which you compete against AI opponents. However, it is possible that friendly fire will be active. At least that’s the default in Siege. We’ll update the information as soon as we can confirm it.
If you want to compete with other players, there is an endgame mode with the Maelstrom Protocol. It’s extremely challenging, but rewards you with unique cosmetics that you can only unlock there. Even without a leaderboard, you can show how good you are with something like golden helmets.

Editions and Buddy Pass for your co-op friends
Which versions are there? Rainbow Six: Extraction will only come in two flavors: Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe. While the Standard Edition only includes the game and the Buddy Pass, the Deluxe Edition also includes:
- the Toxic Contact Pack with various weapon and operator skins
- the “React Strike” pack with additional skins, discounts in the shop and currency boosters
You can get the standard edition for €39.99 (PC) or €49.99 (console). The Deluxe Edition costs €10 more each, i.e. €49.99 and €59.99 respectively. You can play the game in official store of Ubisoft purchase for all platforms.
What does the Buddy Pass bring? Rainbow Six: Extraction will get a Buddy Pass at release. Purchasing any version gives you two of these passes, each allowing you to invite a friend. You can find detailed information in our co-op special.
Your buddy will then get free access to Extraction for 14 days. So you can try out the new shooter in co-op and test whether you like it or invite friends to convince them. You can easily invite friends from the in-game menu itself. Invited friends can then play the game through their platform’s “trial version”.
