Are Sony Exclusives Coming To A Game Pass Equivalent At Launch? Xbox boss thinks so

Sony could be working on an answer to Xbox Game Pass, but whether it will come and what it will look like is yet to be determined.

Sony could be planning to bundle PS Now and PS Plus into some sort of subscription designed to compete with Xbox Game Pass. If that really happens, the question arises as to whether first-party exclusive titles will also be included in the subscription service right at launch. At least that’s the case with Microsoft and Game Pass. Xbox boss Phil Spencer believes that’s the right approach and that the competition has little choice but to do it that way.

Sony’s Game Pass subscription could include first-party exclusives right at launch

That’s what it’s about: According to a Bloomberg report, Sony will soon launch a new subscription service. It should combine PS Now and PS Plus, but also offer more and be available in three levels. Among other things, a stage could also include older PS1, PS2 and PS3 titles and overall the whole thing should become a kind of Game Pass alternative:

What about exclusives? Xbox boss Phil Spencer now explains in an interview with IGN that he assumes that the competition will proceed in a similar way to Microsoft. In plain language, that means he even thinks it is “inevitable” to offer first-party exclusive titles in his own subscription service right at the launch. That’s why he assumes that the competition will do the same:

“I think the right answer is to release good games, release them on PC, release them on console and cloud, and make them available for subscription on Day 1. And I expect that to happen as well is what our competitors will do.”

The Xbox boss also insists that this doesn’t sound like he has the answer to everything, but he says it’s just the “right” way to go. According to him, players should simply be given the greatest possible freedom of choice.

More on the subject:

What does Sony say? Nothing. We currently don’t even know if this ominous subscription service is actually coming. While there’s some evidence of this, and Bloomberg is usually very knowledgeable, that doesn’t necessarily mean a Game Pass competitor is actually appearing any time soon. In 2020, however, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan stated that Sony would not pack any new releases into a subscription model because they were so expensive that it did not pay off.
