Expert tests first new Runeword in Diablo 2 Resurrected coming with Ladder in Patch 2.4

With the new Ladder and Patch 2.4, new runewords are coming to Diablo 2 Resurrected. Now the expert Dbrunski125 has taken a closer look at one of them and tested what it can do. MeinMMO summarizes his impressions for you and whether it is any good.

What are rune words? These are combinations of runes that strengthen your weapons, shields, helmets or chest armor with additional effects. In Diablo 2 Resurrected, enemies can drop the runes. They also rarely drop in barrels and crates.

Each rune already has a bonus on its own. Runewords are created when you use the runes in the right order in a basic item with enough socket slots. It is important to keep the correct order, otherwise you will lose many hours of grind with bad luck.

What’s new now? The new rune word is called “Unbending Will”. Apparently it mainly brings bonuses for melee fighters.

The rune word is “Fal Io Ith El Del Hel” and it can only be used on swords. Here is an overview of the values ​​of the rune word:

  • +330% damage
  • 18% chance to cast Taunt on hit
  • + 3 combat skills (Berserker only)
  • +20% increased Attack Speed
  • +9 maximum damage
  • +50 Attack Rating
  • +75% Damage to Undead
  • +50 attack rating when dealing damage to undead
  • +8% Lifesteal per hit
  • Prevents healing from monsters
  • +10 strength
  • +10 vitality
  • Reduced damage by 8
  • +1 Light Radius
  • Requirements: -20%
  • Requires 6 sockets

Runeword from the new Ladder – What good is “Unbending Will”?

This is what the expert says: In his video, Dbrunski goes into the individual values ​​and bonuses of the new rune word. He also compares them to other, similar rune words such as Eid (“Oath”) or Schwärze (“Black”). Dbrunski would place Unbending Will somewhere in between these two older runewords.

  • The +330% damage is a juicy bonus though. In his opinion, all other stats would be nice bonuses, but they are not decisive.
  • It is also interesting that hits have a chance to cast taunt. This will alert opponents to you and attack, while reducing their attack at the same time. The expert sees this as a particularly interesting quality, especially for mercenaries.
  • However, the runeword is only for melee fighters, which tend to be worse at playthrough. He calls that a limitation.

His verdict on the new runeword is that he finds it “well thought out”. He would rank Unbending Will as a good transition runeword when heading into endgame. The only problem is probably the basic item, because gray swords with 6 rune slots are rare. A good farm spot for such items is the cow level:

What is the ladder actually? It’s something like a season in Diablo 2, they used to be called ladders. For a limited time, you can play as special ladder characters there and equip them with items that can only be found there. There are 4 different ranking lists:

  • Standard/Softcore for Diablo 2 without Lord of Destruction
  • Hardcore for Diablo without Lord of Destruction
  • Standard/Softcore for Diablo 2 with expansion
  • Hardcore for Diablo with expansion

Thanks to official rankings, players can then compete with each other. There is also more content coming into play. In addition to the new rune words, these are new recipes for the Horadric Cube and some adjustments.

The PTR for Diablo 2 is currently running. There, the developers are primarily testing the public test servers, databases and server updates. What exactly is behind it was not explained in detail. Patch 2.4 and the ladder should come at a later date.
