FIFA Mobile Launches New Season Today – Is It Worth Downloading For FIFA 22 Fans?

While FIFA 22 will be played primarily on consoles and PC, football fans on the go can now jump into the new season in FIFA Mobile. But how much FIFA 22 is in the iOS and Android version?

What is FIFA Mobile? FIFA Mobile (or “FIFA Fußball” in the German App Store) is the iOS and Android offshoot of the FIFA series that you can play on current smartphones. On January 18, 2022, the new season started in the game, which brings some changes and is intended to attract new players.

Important, however: it is not a direct mobile version of FIFA 22 in the true sense, as is the case with some other games. You’re not playing a crossplay port of FIFA 22 for mobile, you’re playing a standalone game.

Likewise, you cannot progress in Console/PC FIFA by playing FIFA Mobile. One doesn’t really have anything to do with the other.

Nevertheless, a download can be quite exciting if you are simply looking for a football game for your smartphone. To give you an idea, here’s what’s in FIFA Mobile.

When you fire up FIFA Mobile for the first time, you’ll quickly recognize some elements if you normally play FIFA 22. Even the menu look in the newly started season 6 looks a lot like the main game. There is also some content that is very similar to FIFA 22:

  • In FIFA Mobile, too, you can build a squad and play division rivals in typical Ultimate Team fashion. The FUT Packs are also available in FIFA Mobile.
  • There is a “kick-off” mode, but it’s more of an introduction to the mechanics of the game.
  • There are quests that work a bit like season progression and give you rewards.
  • The soundtrack is also similar to the “big brother” FIFA 22.
  • There is a real-time 11v11.
  • Numerous licensed players and icons, including the Champions League, are on board.
  • However, options such as the career mode are missing.
FIFA Mobile Pulisic
Real players like Pulisic are on board – and can be improved

But if you then go into the game, you will notice that it is a “slimmed down” version of FIFA in comparison. This can also be seen in the content that is listed as new for FIFA Mobile in the new season. These are primarily things that you already know from the “big” FIFAs, such as:

  • An improved graphic with more details.
  • Up to 60 FPS is possible on certain devices.
  • Player stamina that decreases over the course of the match.
  • Football sounds including stadium atmosphere and commentators in different languages.
  • New skill moves that complement the previous repertoire.
  • Team management features such as substitutions, positions and setting player roles such as captain or penalty taker.
  • New camera options.

With these options, the mobile version improves and gets closer to FIFA 22. However, one should not expect a gaming experience that is quite as comprehensive as in the main game.

The touch control takes some getting used to, but allows for a variety of playing styles

However, FIFA Mobile also has some features that FIFA 22 does not have.

  • It is particularly interesting, for example, that you can improve your players in the team through skill boosts and training ranks. Even the total value of the players can be increased.
  • In addition, the “numbers” differ a little compared to FIFA 22. Total values can even rise to over 100, while in the main game 99 was the maximum so far. The coins will also surprise you – they are worth much less in FIFA Mobile than in FIFA 22.
  • There is a special mode called “VS Attack”. You just play different offensive situations with a time limit of 90 seconds instead of a complete game – and at the end it is settled who scored more goals. A refreshing change from the usual gameplay.

Is the game worth it as a FIFA 22 fan? That depends on what you expect from the game. If you want a 1-to-1 transfer of the usual game, you’ve come to the wrong place. Even those who want to gain mobile advantages for their console ultimate team will not achieve anything with FIFA Mobile – because that is simply not possible. You can rather tinker around with the team in the companion app that belongs to FIFA 22.

However, if you are simply looking for a football game for your smartphone that also comes with the real licenses of real players and icons, you have come to the right place. The atmosphere in the stadium is also really fun, the look is impressive for a mobile game.

The decisive factor, however, is that the matches can be played quite intuitively. You learn the touch-adapted control system quite quickly in the tutorial and then, after a little familiarization in the match, you can fall back on things like shots, passes, through passes, crosses, sliding tackles and skill moves.

Depending on how quickly you can cope with the different tap-and-swipe techniques, you can create a variety of attack and defense patterns – even if you can’t fall back on the usual controller.

So, if you just want to play some football with a good atmosphere on your mobile phone, FIFA Mobile download might be the solution for you. Just don’t expect the full FIFA package. However, if you want to advance in the “real” Ultimate Team or continue your career mode, your only option is FIFA 22.

Meanwhile, in FIFA 22, the new update has also gone online on the consoles. You can find out everything about the new Title Update 4 in FIFA 22 here.
