We analyze the biggest purchase in gaming – Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard

Microsoft has announced that the company wants to buy the publisher Activision Blizzard along with its trademarks and IPs. The deal is expected to close by July 2023. We analyze what this means for the industry in the Breaking episode of the MeinMMO podcast.

By far the largest purchase in gaming history has been announced: Microsoft is buying Activision Blizzard for nearly $70 billion.

With the purchase, Microsoft will become the third largest gaming company in the world, just behind Tencent and Sony.

In a first and quick analysis, Schuhmann, Leya and Michael Graf from the game star the situation together for you. They also answer first burning questions:

  • What does this mean for the sexism scandal at Activision Blizzard?
  • What does this mean for Activision CEO Bobby Kotick?
  • Does the purchase make Microsoft too powerful and achieve a monopoly position?
  • What role does cloud gaming play in the takeover?
  • What does this mean for Sony and their exclusive deals? The PS5 could soon be pretty lonely and without a few big games like Call of Duty
