New AirPods 3 update, so you can install it

The AirPods 3 have just received a new firmware update and it is now available at version 4C170.

Apple has just released a new version of firmware for the third generation AirPods, specifically the version 4C170. The previous version available was 4C165, and this new update is only available for AirPods 3.

The AirPods firmware updates are pretty special. On the one hand, Apple does not tell what has been improved or what is new in the new versions, and on the other hand, it does not provide an easy way to update the AirPods, so you have to resort to little tricks to update them.

How to see if the AirPods are up to date or “force” the installation of this new update

The first step is to check the version of the firmware that your AirPods 3 have, since this new update could have been installed without you realizing it. To do it you must connect your AirPods to an iPhone or iPad and go to Settings > Bluetooth and press the “i” that appears next to your AirPods. Information about your AirPods will appear, including the firmware version they have installed.

If you don’t have the version 4C170 on AirPods 3, it means that they have not been updated yet. The system that Apple has designed is designed so that AirPods update automatically, however, there are some tricks to force the installation of a new firmware update on the AirPods:

• Keep AirPods inside the charging case.
• Connect the case to the charger using the Lightning cable or wireless charger.
• AirPods must be connected to your iPhone or iPad.
• Obviously, your iPhone or iPad must be connected to the internet.
• We don’t know exactly when, but given a little while, the AirPods will update themselves to the latest version.
• If the devices have a 100% battery, it is easier for them to update.
