Yu-Gi-Oh Climbs onto Steam, Overtakes Apex Legends & GTA V

This is how the game arrives: Although the game was released without much ado on January 19th, 2022, it is currently attracting a lot of players on Steam. According to the “Steamcharts” overview, “Master Duel” is currently in 4th place among the games with the most current players.

With just over 208,000 current players, Yu-Gi-Oh is only beaten by CS:GO, Dota 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds, which has just switched to the free-to-play model (as of January 20th, 2022, 6:16 p.m Clock).

It left games like Apex Legends (currently: 182,696 players, 5th place) behind, at least for the moment. Compared to GTA V (6th place, 106,570 players), the card game has almost twice the number of players.

What the players say: The game is currently rated “Mostly Positive” on Steam, based on 3,089 reviews, of which 75% were declared “positive” (as of 01/20/2022, 06:16 p.m., via Steam).

Among other things, players praise the variety of cards included in the game and the gameplay, which implements the card game well. There are also reward and crafting systems that, according to the players, make it possible, at least at the start, to secure cards for their own deck.

However, it should be noted that there is an in-game shop where you can also spend real currency and thus gain an advantage – for example by buying card packs.

However, some players criticize that it is not easy to follow the game as a newcomer or returner after a break of several years. There are long chains of effects that can sometimes ensure that a large number of very strong cards end up on the field early in the game. If you only know the very original, basic Yu-Gi-Oh, you might have trouble with this.

Incidentally, Yu-Gi-Oh also made headlines in autumn 2021 – but not as a game in its own right, but rather as a means to an end. Because: A player simply gambled with the cards in Final Fantasy XIV.
