GTA Online equips brand new carts with ancient technology, fans scoff
In GTA Online, the latest update brought a modern, electric SUV into play, among other things. But something doesn’t add up, according to players who have taken a closer look at the car. Or more precisely: in.
What is this car? The new car is the so-called “Obey I car” that players can now purchase from Southern San Andreas Super Autos for GTA$1,720,000.
The car is not one of the fastest cars in GTA Online, but it has a different approach anyway: If you look at the official blog post on the update, you will quickly notice that the new car obviously has a lot of emphasis on modernity. The I-Wagen is described as a “fully electric SUV”, environmentally conscious and progressive.
Completely modern and contemporary, that is. But that only applies as long as you don’t look inside the car.
Dusty interior frustrates players
That’s the problem: In the GTA Online subreddit, players are currently discussing a post that shows the inside of the new vehicle. Because in contrast to the advanced, modern approaches that the I-Wagen is actually supposed to pursue, the interior of the car looks more like a rather dusty cart.
Instead of modern driving systems, as one would probably find in such a vehicle, only a rather drab, gray equipment greets the players. Some users have focused a little on a system for playing cassettes in particular:
- “Cassette system, lol,” writes user “NeedForMadnessAuto” (via reddit). The good old cassette technology has actually become a rarity in modern cars.
- “Haven’t you heard it yet? Cassette tapes are the next big hipster thing,” writes user sinadoh (via reddit).
- “Another beautiful car that won’t go into my collection because it has a horrible rotten old interior damn rockstar,” another user wrote (via reddit).

In addition, the thread repeatedly criticizes that this is not an isolated case: too often you would find cars whose interior design simply does not match the modern exterior: “I wish people would complain more about the interior design. A luxurious Rolls Royce with the same equipment as an old SUV is a joke,” writes user szejdow (via reddit).
At the same time, some players are surprised that this problem arises at all. For them it is incomprehensible that GTA Online is played in the first person view at all, and that is how the gray equipment is encountered. And: In addition to the interior design, the performance of the car does not seem to inspire players.
