Be careful what you name your characters in Lost Ark – you might regret it

If you want to reserve a name for yourself in Lost Ark, it could have bad consequences for you. Because in the new MMORPG, names are not released when your character is deleted. We at MeinMMO explain the situation.

What’s going on at Lost Ark? It’s a common practice for many MMORPG fans to reserve different names for the launch of a new title. As a rule, you do this by simply creating “any” characters that have the name you want to use at some point.

You then delete these characters in order to free up the name and give it to the character who is ultimately to bear it. Especially with Lost Ark, many fans aim to reserve names for classes that are not yet in the game at launch.

Above all, the summoner, who was initially announced and is now not included in our version at the start, is in the foreground with the fans. Many have wanted to reserve a name for their summoner, but that may not work, as one developer revealed on the forums.

What does the developer say? When asked if this technique would also be possible in Lost Ark, a developer in the forum replied that it shouldn’t work in our game version.

Names are not automatically released in Lost Ark when a character is deleted. Instead, developers would have to perform a manual reset. However, it is currently unknown how often these resets are carried out.

The developer concludes his statement with the recommendation not to create characters to later delete them for the name. “It just doesn’t work,” he concludes.

What are the implications? At first you might think that this only affects a particularly small part of the player base. The topic is currently boiling extremely high in reddit. The main reason for this are the classes that are not yet in the game at the start of our version.

Many fans wanted to reserve names for classes that don’t currently exist but are more or less clear that they will come. But that is not possible.

There can also be a problem with trolls. Players who just want to annoy other people could create multiple characters right at release and delete them right away. The names would then still be taken for the time being.

The community is visibly shocked by this approach and cannot fully understand why Amazon and Smilegate are taking this route.

The fans cannot understand the decision

How is the community reacting? Mostly with incomprehension. Many of the players cannot understand why Amazon is going this way with the character names. Some of the players are also disappointed that their favorite class can’t have their favorite name.

Lost Ark will have 15 classes at launch, but there are already 22 in Korea. Those classes will come to us sooner or later and the fans are upset that they can’t reserve their names until then.

The players are also worried that other people will steal their names for fun and delete the characters again. So far it is still unclear when the manual resets will be carried out by Amazon.

For many, this seems to be a glimmer of hope. They hope that Amazon could maybe even do these resets on a weekly basis. But that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

What are the fans saying? the reddit-Thread on the topic is boiling up and is currently very large by the standards of the subreddit. It was created a day ago and currently has 388 upvotes and 168 comments.

• User thisisulb writes: “It’s really good that you let us know beforehand. That’s exactly what I wanted to do. Now I have to think of some other way.. too bad.”
• HeyLongpig tries to smooth things out: “You can still reserve a name if you just create a warrior. You don’t have to select the subclass directly when creating it. Then when the Destroyer comes later, you have a warrior by the name. […] Still, it’s horrible that it doesn’t work that way. If people don’t like the voice or the looks anymore, they have to create a new character – or pay.”
• Treemu writes: “Crap. My plan was to create 5 characters with the names I want and then delete them to customize the characters. Now I need to find a way to streamline the creation.. Maybe I’ll take a look at the Russian version.”
