WoW on Xbox – do you even want it?

Playing World of Warcraft on Xbox – a longtime dream could come true. But do you really want that?

If everything goes smoothly, Microsoft will buy Activision Blizzard within the next few months and thus have a number of other strong game manufacturers united under it. As a manufacturer of the Xbox, however, one question inevitably hangs in the air. Does that mean World of Warcraft, one of the greatest MMORPGs of all time, is coming to Xbox after all? And from this follows the question:

Would you even want that?

What speaks for an implementation on the Xbox? Basically, an implementation, no matter on which console, is a clear win-win situation. More players would be able to experience Blizzard’s MMORPG and that not only means more players in the game world, but also more potential customers for Blizzard. Other MMORPGs have already shown that this is quite possible – such as Final Fantasy XIV.

And even if many a long-time WoW veteran believes that you can’t be in Azeroth with a gamepad – it works. Since Shadowlands, World of Warcraft has offered this function by default, but it can be refined with a few addons. We at MeinMMO also got a taste of “WoW with a controller” and were positively surprised.

Technically and playfully it is definitely possible.

Last but not least, Microsoft could even include World of Warcraft in Game Pass along with Blizzard – to attract even more customers.

It works well with the gamepad – regardless of whether it’s an Xbox or PS controller.

What speaks against an implementation on the Xbox? As much as speaks for it, unfortunately also speaks against it. Blizzard has repeatedly denied a console implementation in recent years. Since World of Warcraft was never planned with consoles in mind, the whole engine and the game isn’t really designed for it. It would take a lot of work to get the whole MMORPG working in its current form on the Xbox. Simply “copy-paste” the data will probably not be enough.

So Blizzard would have to throw a lot of resources into this project to really make it work in an acceptable state. But maybe they’ve been doing that in the background for the last few years…

But let’s come to you! Would you want to play World of Warcraft on console? Can you imagine roaming around Azeroth in front of the TV, gamepad in hand?

If you want to elaborate a little more on your answer, or add worries, concerns, and conditions, please leave a comment and discuss the pros and cons of a World of Warcraft console port.

One can still dream a little, right?

Completely independent of this, there could soon be new information about the next WoW addon …
