Xbox Series X fridge, analysis: it does not have Game Pass or ‘Halo Infinite’, but it cools cans that are nice

You know what’s better than a good meme? When said meme becomes reality. This is what has happened with the Xbox Series X. When it was introduced, users they joked with its resemblance to a refrigerator, to the point that the very Microsoft came up and ended up making it a reality. First, as a large-format fridge for certain influencers; later, as a small refrigerator for users.

From Xataka we have already had the opportunity to put the glove on it and try it long and hard. It’s one of those things that you never expect to do, write an analysis about a refrigerator shaped like an Xbox, but as happened with Alejandro Sanz’s Monopoly, here we have come to play. What does this peculiar fridge offer? How faithful is it to the Xbox Series X? And the most important, really cool? Let’s see it.

It’s not an Xbox, but it looks a lot like it

Let’s go with the fridge. The design, as you can see in the photos, it is a total carbon copy of the design of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. At first glance, it is difficult to differentiate it, but if you have a Microsoft console, it will surely not take long to realize that it is larger.

The scale of its dimensions is 1.5:1, which translates into a height of 462 millimeters and a length and depth of 232 millimeters. Its weight is not too high, so if on occasion we want to move it from one room to another (or take it to a campsite, too) it will not be too much of a problem.

At the level of detail, the fridge is practically a very well achieved replica of the original Xbox Series X. So much, that even the button layout has been maintained. The power button of the console, the slot for the discs, the button to eject them and even the controller that is used to synchronize the controls on the Xbox Series X, it is all here. The best? that they work

What to consider before buying a refrigerator

For example, the controller we would use to sync the controllers is used to light up the Xbox logo LED. The button to remove the disks, on the other hand, is used to turn on a green LED at the top. Curious, mainly because this is something that the original console does not have (although it may seem so).

The USB port also has its uses, mainly charge the mobile. It is not the fastest charge on the market, but it never hurts to have this port on hand in case we want to use it. It is a tiny detail, but no less useful for that.

At the construction level, the whole fridge is made of plastic. Although it is practically identical to the console, this device uses a much more fragile material that, in addition to getting dirty very easily, also scratches just by looking at it. We recommend taking special care with that.

And now that we know it from the outside, let’s see what it offers inside. Inside we find a 3.8 GHz eight-core processor, 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, a 1 TB SSD with inter… wait, I’ve messed up. That’s the Xbox Series X, sorry. This fridge has two holes to put 12 cans, and that’s it.

The main storage area, which is in turn made up of three spaces separated by small grids, also made of plastic, is where we can store cans, bottles of any type of beverage, or why not, some food, as long as it’s not too big a package.

Twelve cans fit, as long as we remove the two trays that we have located on the door, which can be removed without any problem. On the contrary, only ten cans will fit, as these trays collide with the remaining two cans and the door cannot be closed.

In fact, after having tried it, we thought that the fridge much more practical without these two trays, since the space that remains is really small and it is not particularly practical. Unless, of course, you want to pack a chocolate bar, McDonald’s ketchup packets, and the like.

Confirmed: the ketchup goes in.

But what happens if we want to put another type of container inside this fridge? We can do it, depending on your size. If we want to put larger bottles or cans, we also have the opportunity to do so, either by knocking them over or removing the two grids inside.

So far so good, but there is one thing we did not like: the interior cavity has no lighting. When you open it, the fridge does not light up inside. It is true that it is not a two-meter refrigerator full of food, but it would have been a detail to put a little light. Maybe by the time Microsoft releases its next console, who knows.

But… is it really cold?

The fridge can be connected to the mains through a 220-240V AC plug (the cable comes in the box). However, there is also a direct current input and a dedicated cable that will allow us, for example, connect the fridge to the cigarette lighter socket of the car. Do you remember what we said before taking her to a campsite? Well that.

That said, the fridge has two different powers or modes. A eco way, which is slower and consumes less power, and a “Max” mode, which takes advantage of the 64W of power of the refrigerator to cool more quickly. With this mode, the content cools down in about 20 minutes. With the eco mode, the time goes up to 45 minutes.

And does it make noise? Yes a bit. In eco mode, the noise is softer and, although continuous, it is not annoying. In “Max” mode, however, the noise level increases and it can become annoying. It is something to take into account when placing the refrigerator in a room or in areas where there will be more people.

Speaking of having the fridge connected, a note: Microsoft recommends not always having it plugged in. It is a small appliance and its continued use can reduce the durability of its components, so the ideal is to turn it on and off intermittently.

As far as consumption is concerned, it is better not to lose sight of it being as it is, we have made some quick estimates: using it three times a week at maximum power, for 12 hours a day, the estimated annual consumption would be 119.81 kWh, that is, some 37,14 euros. The figure will fluctuate more or less depending on the day, but it helps us to get an idea.

Xbox Series X fridge, Xataka’s opinion

At this point, we can conclude that the Xbox fridge delivers what it promises. It is a mini fridge whose design perfectly replicates Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, and which has an interior with enough capacity to hydrate one or two people without a problem. In addition, its ability to cool is quite surprising, and the possibility of transporting it from one place to another is an extra that is appreciated.

As drawbacks, we find a appliance very noisy when running at full power and with slightly fragile construction materials that can be damaged over time. Not to mention that it is the manufacturer itself that recommends not having it plugged in all the time.
