Belt Cup 2022: In July it’s about 32,000 euros at the Lohmühle

It is a football tournament that aims to connect people on both sides of the Belt in Germany and Denmark – with sport and fun, with football and parties. In 2018 there was the premiere of the Belt Cup in Lübeck, it was a perfect party. A year later, the Danish “answer” followed in Nyköbing – 2020 would have been Lübeck’s turn again. Corona thwarted the plans, as it did in 2021. But the break is over, the third Belt Cup edition is fixed and is expected to take place at the Lübeck Lohmühle from July 8th to 10th.

Football and family festival at the Lohmühle

The organizers of the event met in Lübeck last week – Florian Möller from the host VfB Lübeck, Tim Cassel as SHFV Managing Director, as well as his Danish colleague Thomas Bonde from the DBU Lolland/Falster football association and Stig Rømer Winther (Managing Director FemernBelt Development), Bernd Jorkisch and Malvin Neugebauer (both board members HanseBelt eV ). It was all about the top-class supporting program with a family festival and business forum – and of course the football tournament, which is endowed with 32,000 euros, more than any other tournament in the region.

HB Köge wants to defend the title

The game will be played in two groups of three, with the six best teams from the two associations qualifying – geographically separated between Hamburg and Copenhagen. In Denmark it is the three participants from 2019, the then tournament winner HB Köge (3:0 against SV Todesfelde), Nykøbing FC and Næstved Boldklub, all second division clubs. On the German side, the regional league teams from the Hansebelt region VfB Lübeck and Phönix Lübeck have qualified. So there can be one of the explosively popular derbies again. The third German participant is the best Oberliga team after the end of the 2021/22 season – i.e. probably either SV Todesfelde or SV Eichede. Oldenburger SV, Preußen Reinfeld, FC Dornbreite, TSV Pansdorf and Eutin 08 only have outsider chances.
