Play Store starts testing downloading games for Windows

Google has officially started beta testing for Google Play games running on Windows. But for now, only users in certain regions can try running Android apps directly on their PCs.

Microsoft announced Windows 11 with the promise that it would support Android apps, though that functionality wasn’t ready at launch.

The option was expected to be available to all Windows 11 users before the end of 2021. However, we have already seen that this has not been the case and that it is still in the testing period. Of course, getting closer to going out in all countries.

However, this beta phase, which is called Google Play Games It can only be enjoyed in South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, with classic games like Mobile Legends, Summoners War, State of Survival or Three Kingoms Tactics. But nevertheless, it will be expanded to other locations throughout 2022.

The menu of Google Play Games it looks a lot like the regular Google Play Store, but with longer descriptions and a different notification to know if the game has ads and in-app purchases.

However, it seems that there is something more. In the desktop version of Google Play has appeared a button called Download in Windows for the game Lineage2M in most regions, and clicking it downloads an executable file for Windows.

The name of the file reveals that you are using Purple emulator, but it’s unclear if Microsoft plans to use it for the entire project or if it’s trying different things at different points on the planet.

“Gamers can easily browse, download and play their favorite mobile games on their PCs while taking advantage of larger screens with mouse and keyboard input,” says Arjun Dayal, Group Product Manager at Google Play Games.

Another relevant point is that they will not leave aside Windows 10 and the app will work on both this OS and Windows 11. Google promises “seamless gaming sessions between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and Windows PC.”
