One of the main streamers on Twitch calls for a kids category for streams

Famed Twitch streamer Pokimane is demanding a kid-only version of Twitch on her stream due to a recent incident. She wants to create a safe platform for all age groups.

How did she come up with the idea?

According to Pokimane, today’s Twitch is a hotbed of toxic behavior that Amazon needs to eradicate.

However, the streamer also turns to the streamers and accuses them of taking advantage of their young audience and abusing them for their own purposes. The 25-year-old does not name specific names, but is likely to refer to streamers like JiDion again.

What is Twitch already doing to protect children? Amazon already gives parents a few ways to keep their kids safe on Twitch and even gives recommendations for Twitch channels that are particularly good for kids:

• The Twitch app on the App Store and Google Play is rated 17+ and Parental Control respectively.
• Parents can select 18+ content in the “Not Interested” setting.
• The ability to receive messages can be disabled.
• Twitch provides a list of child-friendly streaming channels (via bark.us)

However, Twitch could share its offer. Competitor YouTube is leading the way: There is a category called “YouTube Kids”, which only shows content that has been tested and is suitable for a young audience.
