Your iPhone converted into a dataphone: you will be able to receive payments via NFC very soon

In an upcoming iOS update, Apple will implement a new feature that will allow you to pay from one iPhone to another using NFC.

Apple is developing a new feature that would allow iPhone users can accept credit card payments through NFC technology no additional hardware, As reported by Mark Gurman in Bloomberg. Today, accepting payments on an iPhone requires the use of third-party external devices, often very expensive.

Apple has reportedly been working on this feature since 2020, when Acquired Canadian startup Mobeewave for $100 million, which was working on a technology to allow smartphones to act as payment terminals via NFC.

The upcoming feature will turn the iPhone into a dataphone, allowing users to accept payments by simply tapping a credit card or another iPhone on the back of their device. It’s unclear if the option will be part of Apple Pay, though the team working on the feature has been working within Apple’s payments division since it was brought in from Mobeewave.

Apple Card y Apple Pay

According to Gurman, Apple could implement this new function very soon, could even be seen in the betas of iOS 15.4, which could arrive any time after the final release of iOS 15.3.

The report also ensures that Apple could talk about this new feature at its first event of the year, which could happen in the spring and would be focused on the iPhone SE and iPad Air, as well as a new Mac with a much more powerful M1 processor.

Do not ask for a copy of the receipt when paying, Apple Pay saves it for you

We don’t know if it will be a business-focused feature, with a new associated Apple service, or if it will be integrated into Apple Pay and can be used by all users to accept payments. Apple already has a similar function with Apple Cash to send payments to your contacts, however it is something that is limited to the United States at the moment.
