Animal Crossing: Indications of a possible expansion of Nook’s shop are growing
Nook’s store in Animal Crossing New Horizons may get an upgrade, but only one so far.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nook’s shop can be upgraded. However, this has only worked once so far, which is quite unusual. In other Animal Crossing games, that was actually always at least three times. That’s why many fans hope that Nook’s shop can be further expanded in New Horizons. The odds aren’t bad at all if we take a closer look.

But so far we have been waiting in vain for the opportunity to expand the shop even more with further upgrades. This was always possible in previous franchise titles and there are also indications in Animal Crossing New Horizons that a corresponding possibility will come into play at some point (via: Mayor Mori on YouTube).
The 3 clues to upgrade Nook’s shop:
- Die Outlines: If you want to place Nook’s shop on your island, you can see the space that the shop needs with the help of an outline. But the finished store never fills in that outline, even after the one-time expansion. With all other buildings and in other games in the series, this outline always shows the final size of the building after all upgrades.
- Datamining-Funde: Apparently hidden in the depths of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game code are clues to another upgrade for Nook’s shop. The dataminers have been right several times in the past and predicted future expansions for the game.
- Interior with stairs: Hidden inside the current store is a staircase that leads upstairs. But currently there is no possibility to use the stairs and also no upper floor.
What speaks against it? Nintendo has actually stated that Animal Crossing: New Horizons should no longer receive any major updates. Which, of course, begs the question of whether or not an expansion of Nook’s store would be a major update. The last really big one was Update 2.0, for which you can see a trailer here:

Animal Crossing New Horizons could well receive even smaller updates that go beyond seasonal changes. Many fans would certainly be happy about an expansion of Nook’s store. Until then, you can at least view the February update for all insects with price and location here.
