Valheim is now 1 year old, talks about the big updates for 2022

Valheim turned one year old on February 2, 2022. To the surprise of the developers, the survival MMO has already inspired many hundreds of thousands of players. Now for the birthday there is an interim status of the upcoming updates with a foretaste of the new content.

What updates are coming? Specifically, two new updates are mentioned that the developers are currently working on:

• the mountains update
• the Mistlands, the game’s first new biome

Incidentally, both updates are probably already listed in the original roadmap from shortly after release – insofar as the Berge update will actually be “Cult of the Wolf”. At least wolves can be found in the mountains biome, which speaks for it.

What’s in the updates? The mountains update should liven up the biome of the same name a little more. There will be caves and dungeons inhabited by wolves and other creatures. This way you won’t just have to go to the mountains for some silver or the fight against Moder, but you will also be able to explore something.

The Mistlands is the first new biome that can already be found in the game. There is nothing to see there but spider webs. There will probably be spiders, insects and enchanted materials thematically.

There isn’t much more information yet, except that the concepts for the Misty Lands are now complete. There is even a first picture of a moth said to be found there. Now they’re working on new parts, enemies and mechanics, but don’t want to talk about them just yet.

Here’s how the community is reacting: The Vikings especially pounce on the new creature. The moth-like beast gives fans instant flashbacks to Valheim’s worst enemies: Death Kitos.

These beasts may be tiny, but they are absolutely deadly. The fans now hope that the moths will not be quite so unfair. Valheim can be tough in places anyway, almost a little unfair. But many apparently want to explore the Misty Lands first and not fear for their lives.

When are the updates coming? As of now, there is no date for the new content. The mountains update is currently in the “final touches”, but the misty lands will probably take longer. If we look at the first major update Hearth & Home, which came half a year after the release, you can count on the Misty Lands in September.

However, since the team is now much larger, the updates could also come faster. We expect more content by early summer at the latest, probably earlier with the mountains update. In the meantime, you can while away the time with Valheim itself or other of the best survival games:
