CE Timmendorf: Beach Devils storm the Ice Palace – but Coach Pohl blames

“Success,” says CET trainer Michael “Mitch” Pohl, “leads 80 percent over the head.” By that he means the mentality, the mental freshness of his team, which had to nibble at the meantime heavy defeats. So ice hockey expert Pohl observed his players closely, recognized problems, held individual discussions – and the measures bore fruit. After the “Beach Devils” won 5-2 against HSV on Friday, they won 6-2 away in front of 53 spectators at the Stellinger Eispalast on Sunday and are now level on points with third-placed Adendorfer EC.

Pohl: “Unparalleled disrespect”

Mental strength was required in the guest appearance at HSV. Kenneth Schnabel and Co. fell behind twice, while Matthew Watson and Jan Rostek were able to equalize. “Then we pulled the momentum onto our side,” says Pohl. Marco Meyer, Schnabel and Christopher Röhrl scored three goals within three minutes – the preliminary decision before Jason Horst scored the final point in the last third with his goal to make it 6:2.

However, Pohl did not appreciate the success against the bottom of the table. “When I hear things like: ‘You have to win against HSV’ – that’s an incomparable disrespect. We have to push ourselves extremely hard in every game and I have a lot of respect for the performance of my team.” A packed program awaits them next weekend: on Friday we go to the Salzgitter Icefighters (catch-up game), on Saturday the “Beach Devils” host then the table second ECW Sande.
