In the depths of the game code of Pokémon Legends: Arceus lies a previously unused Poké Ball.
In the depths of the game code of Pokémon Legends: Arceus lies a previously unused Poké Ball.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus and the remakes Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl belong to the same franchise, but apart from the Sinnoh region they are not very closely related. However, that could change soon: data miners found a mysterious and previously unused Poké Ball in both games.

That’s what it’s about: Pokémon legends Arceus was only released recently, but dataminers are of course already putting the game through its paces. In other words, a mysterious Poké Ball was discovered deep in the code of the Nintendo Switch Exclusive, which actually cannot be used at all in the gameplay itself.

However, modders have already managed to do this. Probably with the help of a hacked saved game, but that remains a bit unclear and then looks like this video. Here you can have a look at the “strange Pokéball” that doesn’t actually exist in the game:

The special thing about it: While that would be exciting in and of itself, there’s one small, subtle detail that makes it all the more remarkable. Exactly the same “strange Pokéball” has already been discovered by dataminers in Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (via: Comicbook).

What does that mean? There may be a connection between the two Pokémon games that has not yet been implemented. The special Poké Balls could possibly be intended for the transfer of Pokémon between the two time levels.

Or maybe the “strange Poké Balls” are a kind of placeholder that stands for other Poké Balls that haven’t been seen in Legends: Arceus or the Diamond/Pearl remakes yet. That would make sense, especially if both Pokémon games can be connected to Pokémon Home in the course of 2022, as announced.

Don’t rejoice too soon! But none of that is certain yet, and we don’t know exactly how Pokémon Home will be integrated into the games. Just because an item is hidden in game code doesn’t mean it has to serve as a gameplay element at some point.

Are you eagerly awaiting the integration of Pokémon Home? What do you think behind the Pokeball?
