Destiny 2: Apprentice’s Oath – How to complete Raid Challenge 3 “Defenses Down”

Destiny 2: Apprentice's Oath - How to complete Raid Challenge 3 "Defenses Down"

In Destiny 2 there are new challenges in the current raid “The Apprentice’s Oath”. We will explain to you what that is exactly and, above all, how you can master the 3rd challenge “Defense failed”.

What is a Raid Challenge? All raids in Destiny 2 are challenging group activities and are part of the endgame. In raids, the players face tricky puzzles together, overcome jump passages in order to finally kill the toughest bosses, who then drop prestigious weapons and armor.

But if that’s not enough for you, you can still face a so-called challenge in a raid. While they still incorporate the classic raid mechanics, they also limit certain playstyles, often requiring you to adjust your team tactics to master them.

All challenges usually take place on a specific raid encounter or phase. There are a total of four such encounters in the raid “Oath of the Apprentice” – the jump passages are left out.

These weapons are available in the Vow of the Apprentice raid.

How to complete the challenge “defense failed”

This is the third encounter: The Raid Challenge “Defenses Failed” takes place in the third phase of the Witch Queen raid “The Apprentice’s Oath” at the relics.

This used to require you to pick up special bounties from Hawthorne, but that has changed. The challenge is automatically active when the raid starts. When you start the raid, you will see the relevant information on the bottom left.

Specifically, to complete the Defense Failed challenge, you may only kill one Taken Knight with your relic. If you fail, you’ll get a “Challenge Failed” message. Then, to try again, you can all just die to start the encounter again.

Tips for the challenge

The challenge is easy to master if you have identified the “runners” and their order before starting the phase. So coordinate when it is your turn to kill a knight. You have to swap the laser artifact once in each of the different rooms to be able to defeat the knights and master the challenge.

Players also report a total of seven knights that can spawn here, but each member of the fireteam is only allowed to destroy one knight. In this case you have to let a knight live and move on through the next rooms.

What’s the reward? If you have successfully mastered the challenge, there is a bonus loot. In addition to the standard chest at the end of the encounter, another chest will appear after a short time. This is also top-of-the-line equipment. So it’s worth making the effort.

Since each encounter offers you specific loot, this means that for this challenge you can either snag the Resonance Rage chest armor or boots, or get the Submachine Gun and Redemption Fusion Rifle.
