Elden Ring: That’s why your horse throws you to its death and that’s how you prevent it

Is your spectral horse playing tricks on you? We explain why and how to prevent this.

Is your spectral horse playing tricks on you? We explain why and how to prevent this.

Traveling through the vast inland of the Elden Ring would be unthinkable without our spectral steed, Stormwind. However, the jumping ability of the horned steed leaves something to be desired at times. Have you ever been annoyed that your mount just refuses to double jump every now and then and jumps to its death with you? Or that it’s already half dead when it spawns? We’ll tell you what’s wrong and what you can do.

That’s why you fall to your death

It’s all about this: Dataminer Zullie the Witch dedicated a video to the two most common issues fans have with Stormwind. In this we learn why the spectral steed sometimes switches to stubborn horse and absolutely does not complete a double jump. This happens especially when the mount doesn’t actually jump off a cliff, but first falls and we try to save ourselves with two jumps in the air.

Bug is to blame: Zullie thought at first that it’s not possible to string two jumps together in this case. But that was due to the fan’s choice of weapon, because as explained in the video, it’s a bug in the fall animation that has to do with it. At first, Zullie thought the problem was directly related to the gun. Rather, it is due to the way in which it is held. For example, greatswords carried over the shoulder can cause problems, but so can spears.

How to avoid the death fall: If you’re playing with a weapon that triggers the bug, the easiest way to avoid it is to simply sheath it while riding. If you get into a fight, you can quickly get them back by pressing right on the D-Pad.

Do you find that annoying? The bug may be fixed in a patch soon. In any case, Zullie hopes that the video will draw the development team’s attention to the problem.

More on Elden Ring:

Stormwind spawns half dead

Also, you may have noticed that Stormwind doesn’t always show up with full health. Sometimes when we call him, his life bar is already pretty low. Zullie has an explanation for that too. Other beings in the world will always come back in full strength after you have used the fast travel function or died.

The difference, however, is that these are tied to specific spawn points on the map. Storm wind, on the other hand, can appear in many places. There is probably just no code here that ensures that the spectral steed with its special properties is healed.

How to make Stormwind fit again: Your Spectral Steed’s life bar fills up when you rest on a mercy or when Stormwind respawns after its own death. In addition, as Zullie reveals, your horned horse regenerates 3 LP per second – or heals completely if you feed it or use a bottle.
