Horizon Forbidden West: Did you notice Aloy’s scar? Hence the heroine’s injury
Video game characters tend to go through a lot in their careers. They’ll be shot at, tumble down cliffs, and clash with an enemy or monster at every turn. Aloy is no different. But while most of the avatars still look fresh and intact in the fifth sequel, the heroine of Horizon Forbidden West is scarred by her past adventures.
Warning, the following are minor spoilers for the Horizon Zero Dawn prologue!
The events of Zero Dawn shaped Aloy
Fans have spotted a detail about Aloy in Horizon Forbidden West that most of you may have missed. There is a long scar on our heroine’s neck. While this is quite noticeable, we usually see Aloy from behind while gambling, and there is often armor or her flowing hair over her neck.
The comments below Reddit post show the excitement in the community about such details. “I want to kiss the devs for the beautiful game,” writes YummyBunny52.
Here you can see the healed wound:
Where did the injury come from? The scar would be purely cosmetic if it had no history. In fact, if you’ve played Horizon Zero Dawn, you’ll know the origin.
Relatively early in the game, Aloy takes part in the ritual known as the Proving. But the group of young people is massacred by the fanatics of the eclipse. In the end, Aloy almost gets it too when Helis, leader of the Eclipse, cuts her throat and drops her into the abyss. But the heroine survives and now bears the scar.
There are other scars: The details don’t stop there, however. A comment indicates that Aloy still has a healed wound above her eyebar. This comes from a stone that a young Nora threw at her when she was a child. There are probably more such wonderful elements hidden in Horizon Forbidden West.

We don’t even get most of the details in games
It’s sometimes unbelievable how much detail finds its way into our games. The masters of this discipline are probably Naughty Dog: videos with new discoveries from The Last of Us 2 keep appearing.
Hidden Easter Eggs are best when they tell a story, like Aloy’s scar. Thanks to ever-improving technology, faces are slowly becoming frighteningly real. But we usually don’t get much of the details during the action.
