New The Witcher: You want to retire Geralt

Geralt looks old there...

Geralt looks old there…

You have decided, CD Projekt, please implement! In a poll, we asked the GamePro community who they would like to see starring in the new The Witcher saga. The result is surprising, because the majority of you would like to retire grumpy bard Geralt and leave the battlefield to a new character.

result of the survey

have total 5,307 people participated in the survey and before we get to the evaluation, a huge thank you to you! Also to the many comment writers from the community who have justified their choice.

Question: Who do you want to play in the new The Witcher?

  • 38% – Geralt
  • 23% – Created character
  • 21% – Ciri
  • 10% – Vesemir

The remaining 8% of the votes went to Dandelion, Yennefer and Triss, who you’d probably prefer to see in the role of a supporting character. However, it is also clear that proud 62% of you want to experience a fresh main character in the upcoming saga. A result that surprised us a little, after all you voted Geralt your favorite video game protagonist just last year.

Only 174 votes for Larkspur!? On this point, however, we have to scold you a little. That only 3% chose the world’s best bard, how can that be? Beat up monsters with a lute, make them swoon with lovely songs and get the best discounts from dealers because they just want to get rid of the man. Such a game would even break the rating of Elden Ring. But fine as you like.

As is usual with survey evaluations here on GamePro, we want to let you have your say and show why Ciri and a created character are so popular.

That’s why you want to play Ciri:

HaMo8117 sees a lot of potential in their story and writes:

I voted for Ciri because I enjoyed the passages with her in TW3 and I see a lot of potential there. But otherwise I don’t care, I’m really looking forward to diving back into the Witcher world and as long as they deliver a strong story including strong side quests, it’s already 3/4 won.

Simmonelli promises a gameplay development:

Definitely Ciri. On the one hand, this enables good integration and development of the lore, but on the other hand, thanks to Ciri’s abilities, it offers significantly more possibilities for gameplay development than, for example, Jennifer or Triss.

Why you want to create your character yourself:

Caveman wants Geralt as a trainer:

A custom character that may be trained by Gerald… or a young Gerald.

Snakelator thinks cyberpunk:

I wouldn’t mind a custom character. It worked well in Cyberpunk 2077 too. (…) Fixed figure, only with choice of gender and appearance. All other subtleties for character shaping could be solved via dialogue options.

However, some from the community, such as Drakeline, Flooraimer or discokid, would like to see characters in the lead role that were not up for vote. Among them Regis, Lambert, Eskel or the Red Baron’s son. Why the latter should be explained at the beginning of the game. Well, we would be curious.

The Witcher reveal reveals almost nothing because it wasn’t for you

So far, the information about the new The Witcher is still very thin. Colleagues Maurice and Micha explain why in the video above.

What we know: The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 thanks to a partnership with Epic and is said to be under far better working conditions than The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. In addition, a picture was published showing a medallion.

While many, including us, initially suspected that it was a cat medallion that suggested a connection to Ciri, this has now been officially disproved. Rather, you can see a lynx whose witcher school is based on fan fiction and could mean that we might be able to create our own character in the game.

Did you expect so many to decide against Geralt as the main character in the new The Witcher?
