CD Projekt RED once again comments on the next-gen upgrade of The Witcher 3.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt should actually be released in the second quarter of 2022. But as CD Projekt RED announced a few days ago, the improved version of the role-playing game is being postponed. There is no new release date yet. The exact reasons for the postponement are also unknown, leading to the assumption that there could be problems with the development.

What’s new? CDPR now comments again on the postponement and makes it clear: the upgrade is expressly not “in development hell”. And the developer studio also gives hope for the new release date.

The Witcher 3: Release for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S not too far away

The statements come from Michał Nowakowski, senior vice president of business development at CDPR (via PC gamers). During the developer studio’s inventory call on Maundy Thursday, he made it clear:

I’ve been looking at the headlines that have popped up here and there around the internet and I’ve seen one that really caught my attention which is “Witcher 3 Next-Gen Indefinitely Delayed” which sounds like the game would be in development hell. I want to make it clear that this is not the case.

And about the release of the upgrade, Nowakowski says the following:

There have been many hints that the upgrade will launch next June or so. That is absolutely not the case. […] Nobody is saying that the game will be postponed with a monumental time lag. That’s all I can say about Witcher Next-Gen, but I really want to emphasize this fact.

A few days ago, CDPR announced that the in-house development team is taking over the rest of the work on The Witcher 3’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrade and that it is currently evaluating how much work the improved console version of the RPG still requires.

That brings The Witcher 3 PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrade

The Witcher 3’s next-gen upgrade is said to bring a handful of technical improvements. Including ray tracing and faster loading times.

Upgrade for free: Those who already own the game on PS4 or Xbox One should also get the next-gen version for free.

New The Witcher game is coming: At the same time, CDPR is already working on the next part of the Witcher saga, which is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. By the way, there is already information about the mysterious medallion from the teaser embedded above. It is not, as many fans initially thought, a cat but a lynx.

We have listed all the games that CDPR is currently working on in this GamePro article.
