Theatrical adaptation of SEGA's "Streets of Rage" planned

After the success of the “Sonic The Hedgehog” films, SEGA apparently wants to bring another video game classic to the big screen with the beat ’em up “Streets of Rage”. According to an exclusive report, the screenplay is to be provided by none other than “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad.

The US website “Deadline” reported on Monday. The makers of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” films from dj2 Entertainment and the production company Escape Artists (including “The Equalizer”) will act as producers. “Deadline” did not provide any information as to when “Streets of Rage” could be in cinemas or how far the project had progressed. “Streets of Rage” was released in 1991 for SEGA’s Mega Drive console. The side-scroller is about former police officers fighting a crime syndicate. Since the first game, sequels have appeared for numerous platforms. The last title in the franchise, Streets of Rage 4, was released in April 2020 and has since sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide.
