Update to Elden Ring finally fixes the most annoying enemies, but makes the hardest boss almost invincible

In Elden Ring patch 1.04 improved and buffed many spells and invocations. However, there were also bug fixes that also fixed the most annoying opponents, but also made one of the hardest bosses almost invincible. We’ll show you the details.

What has changed in Patch 1.04? The new patch 1.04 for Elden Ring came on April 19th and brought many adjustments regarding magic, invocations but also weapons and their corresponding talents and some bug fixes.

However, two changes are particularly important:

  • One concerns the fix of the bloody hounds that can destroy you in a combo.
  • The other buffs one of the hardest bosses and even makes him almost invincible.

We show you what has changed and what the changes mean for you in the game.

Bloody dogs finally bite properly

What was wrong with the dogs? These bloody dogs were feared throughout the hinterland. They could make you bleed to death with their bites, causing instant deaths. However, this was due to a broken animation that caused you to get the bleed effect twice as fast.

So the best way to deal with them was either to block their attacks with the shield or use ranged combat to eliminate them from a safe distance. A special torch could also keep these beasts at a distance.

After the patch, YouTuber Zullie the Witch tested the bloodthirsty beasts and found they were finally fixed. The test is included here again for you:

Are the dogs no longer a threat? Despite the fix, these dogs are still dangerous. If you are careless and get involved in a combo, you could lose a lot of life points. However, you will have a higher chance of emerging from an encounter alive after the patch.

Malenia was buffed – is it a bug?

What happened to Malenia? After the patch, one of the hardest bosses also got a buff. Malenia, the boss in the Halig tree, could gradually replenish her life points with her sword blows. However, after the patch, one game has experienced a disturbing change.

Skilled Swordmaster can now not only heal her health per hit, but just hit near you to charge up. Here is the proof from Reddit user Demoboy995:

This makes Malenia the hardest boss in the game at the moment. If you don’t use the right strategy, Malenia could even be invincible.

Is the change intentional? If you look at the recordings of Demoboy995 on reddit, the adaptation does not look intentional. It seems that something has changed in the frames, which means that this boss doesn’t even have to hit you to heal.

It remains to be seen if FromSoftware will address and fix this issue as for melee the boss could become an ordeal.

What’s the best way to fight now? Since Malenia is vulnerable to bleeding damage, you should also use blood invocations. The incantation “Fly Swarm” pursues your boss and deals a lot of damage from the bloodthirsty flies.

You can send these flies from a safe distance without engaging in dangerous melee combat.

What do you think of the changes? Do you think it’s good that Malenia has become even heavier than before? Or are you glad you defeated them before the patch to secure your platinum trophy? Let us know in the comments!
