Sonic Origins: Sonic Origins – new ancient from the Sega Hedgehog

Sonic Origins (Plattformer) von Sega

Do it again, old friend: Sonic is around the corner again with a retro collection. This time he brings four hopping classics that you can experience in optional 16:9 and with new cutscenes.

Here we go! There are four games included: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles can be played as characters – in two different game variants: In the classic mode there is a 4:3 picture and the option of game overs. In the anniversary mode, on the other hand, a 16:9 full screen and infinite lives. According to Sega, there are also “missions, medallions and a museum where you can show off your skills and earn medals by participating in various missions in the game.” Of course, all four titles have been revised and shine in a magnificent remaster display on modern TVs. There are also new cutscenes, which you can get a glimpse of in the trailer below.

Sonic Origins will be released on June 23 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC, priced at 39.99 euros. Those who pre-order the small collection will receive “100 medallions as a bonus, mirror mode unlocked in advance and letterbox mode with mega-drive design.” The Digital Deluxe Edition for 44.99 euros also serves you, among other things, more difficult missions, an island camera in the main menu, character animations during music playback and exclusive tracks from the Mega Drive titles.

What unfortunately doesn’t deliver a version: A really high-quality Sonic Collection that provides a real view of Sonic’s complex history – even if you were to do without the 3D titles since the Dreamcast era, there would be so many exciting titles that fans would provide a little more surprise than these classics that have been revisited a dozen times already. We would have been happy about the arcade nerd SegaSonic the Hedgehog or the many game gear episodes…
