Wireless charger for the car: what should I watch out for?
You can only use a wireless charger for your car if your smartphone supports so-called inductive or wireless charging. The most common standard for this is called Qi. Most current models from Samsung, Apple and other smartphone manufacturers support this technology.
For older devices, you should take a look at the user manual or the manufacturer’s website. If your mobile phone cannot be charged wirelessly, you absolutely need a charging cable: either with a USB connection or with a plug for the cigarette lighter in the car – depending on what is available in your car.
You should also look at the cockpit of your car and consider where you want or can attach the wireless charger. If you only have space on the windshield, you need a mount with a suction cup to attach the wireless charger. If you want to attach the gadget to the ventilation grille, you need a suitable holder.
Also keep in mind that the cable of the wireless charger must reach the USB port or cigarette lighter in your car. The distance should therefore not be too great.
summary
- In order to use a wireless charger for the car, your smartphone must support inductive charging (Qi standard).
- Before you buy, think about where you want to attach the charging bracket: on the windshield or on the ventilation grille?
- When buying, make sure that your smartphone fits in the holder – this is especially true for large and foldable smartphones.
