A new need for speed has been in the works at Criterion for some time, but solid information about the new racing game offshoot has been more than rare so far. A new leak now gives at least a possible first glimpse of the game, including a map of Lake Shore City and a first glimpse of the gameplay.

NFS 2022 is set to take place in fictional Chicago

There have been leaks in the past claiming that the new Need for Speed will be set in a fictional version of Chicago called Lake Shore City. If that’s true, we may have already seen the map of the game world. in one Reddit leak the alleged map is shown together with two screenshots from the game.

While the first screenshot shows part of the city – and a building that looks quite similar to the 875 North Michigan Avenue skyscraper in Chicago – the second is a little harder to discern. Shown here is a car drifting through a tunnel showing the game’s UI. The screenshot is from a 7-second video, but only on discord can be found.

Enjoy with caution: Since the authenticity of these screenshots cannot currently be verified, you should of course view this leak with plenty of skepticism until there is official information about the game. So far, little more is known than that the new part is in the works and the development of the game has been postponed because Criterion is in the development of Battlefield 2042 had helped out.

According to a report by industry insider Jeff Grubb, the new Need for Speed will be quite different from previous parts and will contain anime elements:

According to Grubb, the Autolog function should also return, with which you could carry out multiplayer races and compare high scores in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. If his information is correct, the new NFS should appear in autumn 2022, but then only get a release for current-gen consoles, i.e. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
