When should I reset network settings?

You are gambling or in an online meeting and the internet is slipping. Resetting network settings can be helpful to fix such connection problems of your PC. The same applies when you are out and about, for example when your Samsung smartphone, iPhone or your tablet cannot find a mobile signal. Likewise, if you want to connect to a Bluetooth speaker and that doesn’t work.

With the network settings, not only the settings for the Internet are reset, but also for Bluetooth and for telephoning with the mobile phone. Everything that has to do with networks.

What happens if I reset the network settings?

During the reset, all data related to networks will be restored to the factory default. That means personalized data is disappearing. In addition to your connected Wi-Fi networks and the associated passwords, this also includes Bluetooth connections, VPN connections and cell phone settings.

So make a note of all the settings and devices that you want to use again later. You then have to set up switches and other network devices such as printers on the PC again.

Reset network settings: How to do it in Windows, iOS and Android

On Windows 10 and Windows 11

  1. Open Settings. To do this, simply enter “Settings” in the search or navigate to this point via the start menu (gear symbol).
  2. Click on “Network and Internet”.
  3. Select “Reset network” at the bottom.
  4. Click Reset Now. Now the PC will be restarted and you have already reset the network settings.

On iPhone/iPad running iOS 15

  1. Go to “Settings > General”.
  2. Tap on “Transfer/Reset iPhone” at the bottom and on “Reset” in the next window.
  3. Select “Network Settings” and enter your code.
  4. Confirm the reset.

On Android devices from Android version 9.0 to Android 12.0

  1. Select “Settings”.
  2. Go to “System” (For Samsung: “General Management”).
  3. Tap on “Reset options” (For Samsung: “Reset”).
  4. Select “Reset Wi-Fi, mobile data & Bluetooth” (For Samsung: “Reset network settings”).
  5. Go to “Reset Settings”.
