You should definitely know this about the next generation of graphics cards before you buy a new one now
If you want to buy a graphics card, you pay significantly less than months ago. However, you might find it worth waiting to buy a new GeForce or Radeon card.
Graphics cards are now becoming cheaper again, so many gamers want to buy a graphics card. But some leakers claim that the next generation should have twice the performance of current graphics cards.
What is it and what does that mean for you if you want to buy a graphics card?
The RTX 4000 and RX 7000 are said to be twice as fast as current graphics cards
Where does the information come from? Two known leakers, Greymon55 and Kopite7kimi have posted information about the new graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia on Twitter. Even if not all leaks from them are always correct, they are considered reliable sources.
How much performance is it? In a recent post, the leakers claim that the latest graphics card from Nvidia should achieve more than 100 Tflops of performance. Flops describes how many floating point digits the chip can calculate per second. The higher the number, the better.
On paper, that would be more than twice as much performance as the RTX 3090 Ti currently offers. Because the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti should deliver a raw performance of 40 TFLOPs. And the RTX 3090 Ti is currently the fastest graphics card for gamers.
Greymoon55 also claimed that the RX 7900 XT, AMD’s new flagship, should offer 92 TFlops of performance. However, the user has since deleted the post on Twitter. Videocardz still refers to the post (via Videocardz.com). On paper, that would even be four times the performance of the RX 6900 XT, because it officially comes to 23 TFlops.
However, the leaks known so far mainly relate to the high-end graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD. There is hardly any information about the entry-level and mid-range graphics cards and these models are interesting for most gamers.
These GPUs are also the graphics cards that sell the most on average. For many gamers, the question should arise as to whether they should buy a graphics card now or whether it would be better to wait.
Should I buy a graphics card now or should I wait?
In the meantime, graphics card prices are falling again after being far too high for the past few months. Not surprisingly, many users now want to buy a graphics card.
The rule also applies: If you get an AMD or Nvidia graphics card such as an RTX 3080 or an RX 6700 XT at RRP, then you are doing absolutely nothing wrong with it. With a current mid-range graphics card, you can easily gamble in four or five years.
Nevertheless, many leaks indicate that the next generation of graphics cards could take a huge leap forward. But not only in terms of performance, the power consumption of the new graphics cards should also increase significantly (via gamestar.de).
If you haven’t bought a graphics card yet, it might be worth the wait if you want even more performance and are willing to use more power.
When are the RTX 4000 and RX 7000 coming? It is certain that new graphics cards will come. However, no one knows when the graphics cards will come out and if they will even be available at release. Because the current generation (RTX 3000 and RX 6000) were totally sold out everywhere at the time of release and then ended up on eBay for thousands of euros.
