PS5 and Xbox Series S/X will probably remain in short supply until 2024

Both PS5 and Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X as well as the Nintendo Switch are likely to be difficult to obtain in the coming years.

The global chip shortage is not easing, on the contrary: If you haven’t been able to buy a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S so far, we have to disappoint you. The situation will probably not ease up in the future, but will rather remain as it is. At least that’s what Intel and Nintendo are assuming. The reasons for that are obvious.

Next gen consoles will likely remain in short supply

That’s what it’s about: Since the onset of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, console makers have struggled with increased demand and production difficulties. Supply chains have been disrupted and resources are scarce, but at the same time more people want to play video games – preferably on the new PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles and the Nintendo Switch.

It will stay like this: Unfortunately, there is no improvement in sight for the time being. On the contrary: Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger corrects his own statement and now estimates that the chip shortage will probably last not only until 2023, but rather until 2024. This is probably mainly due to the fact that production could not be increased as quickly as hoped (via: VGC).

That means for better or for worse, next-gen consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X will continue to be available in small numbers. Graphics card manufacturers are also still affected by the shortage. However, AMD CEO Lisa Su had not long ago given hope that the general situation would improve from the second half of 2022.

Also Nintendo has to correct its own sales expectations for the Nintendo Switch downwards again. Instead of selling 23 million switch consoles in the current financial year, as originally planned, the group is now only assuming 20 million. In addition to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army is also considered to be the reason for supply difficulties and chip shortages (via: GameSpot).

More on this:

Of course, we can only hope that the reasons for the problem will be resolved as quickly as possible. Of course, not only because of the shortage of chips and delivery problems with PS5, Xbox Series S/X and Nintendo Switch.

Do you already have a Next Gen console or are you still waiting for your chance?
