5 Windows 10 and 11 keyboard shortcuts every gamer should know

You play your games under Windows 10 or Windows 11 and sometimes it has to be very fast? We introduce you to a few keyboard shortcuts that every gamer should know. With these shortcuts you save time or simply have a few useful tricks at hand.

Sometimes it has to be quick or you just want to record the last highlight of the game again. But before you have clicked through several programs or started the right software, the crucial battle is already over.

What are shortcuts? You can make your life easier with shortcuts or keyboard shortcuts. Because you only have to press a certain key combination for a function. Some shortcuts, such as Alt + F4, should be familiar to pretty much everyone, but there are also a few shortcuts that aren’t as well known.

We are therefore presenting a few keyboard shortcuts that can make your life easier in Windows if you need something fast or are just looking for a few tips.

Fast switching between windows

Are you currently playing your favorite game and have the MeinMMO guide open somewhere in a window that you always read? Alt + Tab lets you quickly switch between multiple windows. Hold down the Alt key and press the Tab key one after the other until you reach the window that you want to have in the foreground.

Alt + Esc is also useful here. This allows you to switch between all open windows without needing a menu or going through the taskbar.

Forces full screen or window mode

Do you want to quickly switch from full screen mode to windowed mode or vice versa in the game? Then press the combination Alt + Enter. With this you force Windows to be in the opposite mode to where you are: if you are in full screen, for example, you switch to windowed mode and vice versa.

The key combination ignores the setting you have made in your game. However, the set resolution is retained.

Quickly record gameplay

Want to quickly capture your favorite in-game moment, or want to save that absurd boss fight you just beat? On Windows you have the option to record the last 30 seconds of your game.

Windows uses the Xbox Game Bar, which you should normally already have installed on your system. With the key combination Windows + Alt + G you can record the last 30 seconds of the game. The recordings then end up in a video folder.

By the way, an alternative are the software suites from AMD and Nvidia. If you have a graphics card from the relevant manufacturer, you can activate the recording function in both GeForce Experience and AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and set it to a shortcut:

  • With Nvidia you can switch to the overlay with Alt + Z and start the recording here
  • With AMD, you select Alt + R and this takes you directly to the overlay. Here you have to activate the “ReLive” function with one click. Then you can record gameplay with Ctrl + Shift + R.

Slide windows between monitors

If you use multiple monitors, you can use the Windows + Shift + Arrow (left or right) combination to move your open window to the other monitor. This comes in handy when you want to quickly get a window out of the way.

If you don’t have a wide monitor, rearrange the window on your monitor at one of the four corners.

For emergencies: reinitialize graphics card drivers and screen.

You have picture problems or your monitor stays black? With the key combination Ctrl + Windows + Shift + B you can reinitialize your graphics card driver and the screen recognition will be restarted. Microsoft calls the feature “Wake PC from blank or black screen.”

Your screen will briefly go black and you will hear a short beep. For emergencies, it’s good to know the key combination.
