German developer working on survival game on Steam - "Has the potential to be great"

KeepUp Survival has been in Early Access on Steam for a few months and is being developed by German developer Witte’s Studio. MeinMMO introduces the game to you.

What is Keep Up Survival? As the name suggests, this is a classic survival game.

  • You are on a lonely island covered by a dense forest. As usual, you look for resources, build shelters and fight for survival.
  • There are numerous animals, creatures and also buildings that you can explore.
  • When finished, the game should offer different features such as building, crafting, taming, cooking, and it should also be possible to grow different foods.

The game focuses primarily on exploration and the gameplay does not seem like a hardcore survival game that relies on realism, but seems to be aimed more at fans of comfortable survival simulations.

Who is the game from? KeepUp Survival has been in Early Access since February 26, 2021. It is developed by Witte’s Studio, a German developer. On the YouTube– and Twitch channel it can be found out that it is apparently a single developer. It is also possible that several people are involved in the project.

Fitzpiepe oO, aka Norman, according to his channel, has been involved with computers for 25 years and has taught himself to code. He now works as an indie developer and is responsible for the development. Here’s a gameplay snippet:

KeepUp Survival is largely rated positively on Steam – players agree on great potential

Overall, the game currently has 71% positive reviews, the 32 from the last 30 days even rated the game with 84%. The game still suffers from some technical problems and many features are still missing.

However, most players see great potential in the survival game. It is praised for being beginner-friendly and with great attention to detail. In addition, the companions are highlighted positively. Here some Excerpts from the reviews:

  • “I’ve played the game for about 48 hours now and it doesn’t get boring, there’s a lot of love in the details, the companions are just cute and the support is great. I’ll be busy with it for many more hours.” . renesmee

What is not so well received? The negative voices criticize above all that one would mostly walk around aimlessly. In her eyes, the game doesn’t give any clear tasks that need to be completed. Bugs and glitches are also an issue. Grind is also said to be a problem.

But even negative reviews like that of AnubisAnkh see the potential for KeepUp Survival, who is already looking forward to a return: “I can’t recommend this game – not yet. To be fair it has a lot of potential and as development continues I look forward to coming back and maybe changing my mind.”

The basic game currently costs 13.99 euros in Early Access on Steam. By the way: Witte’s Studio is working on two more games – Keep Up Hunter and KeepUp Pirates.

Hunter is a zombie shredding co-op shooter, while Pirates takes you to a cartoon-style pirate island where you have to survive, much like Keep Up Survival.
