Pokémon GO annoys players with expensive ticket prices: "A whole new level"

In Pokémon GO, the details for the GO Fest Berlin have been announced – including the prices of various features. But the cost frustrates some players.

What is this ticket? This year, in addition to the “normal” GO Fest 2022, which will take place globally, there will also be several local events. One of these events takes place in Berlin. All content and information about the GO Fest Berlin can be found here.

From July 1st to 3rd you can take part in the GO Fest in Berlin’s Britzer Garten – on a selected day. However, in order to do so, one must purchase an access ticket for that day. That costs 24.99 euros. This allows you to take part in the event from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In addition, Niantic offers an “Early Access Ticket”. That adds another two hours and lets you in from 09:00 to 18:00. It costs 32.13 euros.

Last but not least, there are also so-called “add-ons” for the ticket. These apply at least every three days from July 1st to 3rd at the event location:

  • The Raid Enthusiast add-on with 12 Raid Passes per day, 5,000 extra Stardust after a successful raid, 6 Extra Candies, and 3 extra XL Candies for catching Pokémon from level 5 raids.
  • And the “Breeder Add-on” with 4x egg hatching speed and double Hatch XP, Candy and Stardust.

Both add-ons cost 10.06 euros each.

Community criticizes price and content

Here’s how the community is reacting: The first reactions to the ticket announcement are quite critical. In the Pokémon GO subreddit “TheSilphRoad”, players complain that the price of the ticket is too high – especially with regard to the add-ons.

Among other things, some criticize that bonuses such as hatching distance or extra raid bonuses are usually already included in tickets and do not have to be bought additionally.

  • “Paying an extra $10 for 1/4 the hatching distance, are you kidding me? It’s a whole new level for Niantic to stoop to,” says user anthonyball_ (via reddit).
  • “Guys, please don’t tell me you’re willing to spend 25-42 euros for this event. That’s an insane amount for one day,” says user “justbrowsing527” (via reddit). However, it should be noted that at least the add-ons are valid for the entire weekend.
  • “I agree that the add-ons are a bit much. And if you’re a local, the price is probably a bit too high to justify. Especially when you consider that one of the shinys is a regional one that you meet dozens of every day,” says user “Jordaroo92”, but qualifies that it could be more interesting for travelers: “But when you’re on vacation, daily activities can easily exceed 25 euros (visits/museums/attractions etc.). The GO Fest takes up pretty much a full day of your trip. At least that’s how I justified my tickets” (via reddit).

There is also criticism that the announced content is not only behind a paywall, but is also tied to a specific location. This is especially true for the “Zenith Form Shaymin”. It is to be expected that sooner or later this will also be published outside of the event in the game, but that could take a while.

Are there any dissenting voices? Some coaches argue that the price doesn’t matter that much to travelers – because you’re already putting a lot of money into a trip to Berlin, depending on where you’re coming from. In addition, such an event on site is also expensive,

Also, some are defending the add-ons as a new version of the “City Pass” that used to be available for purchase to Safari zones, and which also offered weekend-long bonuses.

We also want to know from you: How do you feel about the topic? A survey is currently running in which we would like to hear your opinion on the new event in Berlin.

Also, the raids are currently running with Mega Latias and Mega Latios. But they turn out to be more difficult than some coaches expected.
