When watching the latest trailer for We Were Here Forever, the first thing you might think about is the comparison to It Takes Two wonder. There is no colorful co-op game waiting here, but a gloomy setting that is more likely to send a shiver down your spine. The gameplay is different, however, because here you can expect an asymmetrical co-op game for two players, in which you can only progress together.

A dark puzzle game for two (?) hours

As the trailer reveals, you start in the dungeons of Castle Rock and have to find a way out of the dungeon together. You have to work together to do this, but you also have to complete other passages separately. At least you are never completely alone, after all you are connected to each other via walkie-talkie. You can’t go it alone here, because you can only solve the puzzles blocking your path together.

But it shouldn’t remain so dark all the time. In addition to the castle, your adventure journey will also take you through a frosty graveyard, the city of Rockbury and beneath the frozen sea. Well, even without dark dungeons, that doesn’t exactly sound cheerful.

An equally dark story: In addition to collecting clues and solving puzzles, the game will also let you learn more about the history of Castle Rock and the resistance that turned against the king of the land to escape from it like you did.

The predecessor is free

Incidentally, We Were Here Forever is already the fourth game in the We Were Here series. While the co-op adventures are linked, they don’t have to be played in any particular order. If you want to try it yourself, you can play We Were Here for free on Steam.

We Were Here Forever is scheduled for release on May 10, 2022 for PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

Elen Reinke

For me, It Takes Two was one of the absolute best adventures of 2021 and is one of my favorite co-op games ever. So it’s not surprising that I’m also looking forward to We Were Here Forever. The dark mood of the game doesn’t detract from that, but on the contrary makes me even more curious to explore the mysteries of this world. It remains to be seen if it can keep up with It Takes Two’s great gameplay mechanics.
