Elden Ring: AFK rune farmers kill multiplayer, but this crook cleverly hits back

An invader cannot be tricked, but fights back.

When Elden ring-Fans use tricks to farm runes quickly and get through the tough action RPG more easily. Unfortunately, some players use a strategy that destroys multiplayer. A witty invader doesn’t want to put up with this and hits back in a funny way.

AFK rune farmers annoy Invader

It’s all about this: Currently there is a pretty nasty rune farming scam like eurogamer.net reported. Players allow their world to be invaded, not in order to have a fair fight for the shiny currency, but to scoop everything without doing anything in return.

How AFK rune farming works: Inviting others into their world, the tainted hide in a place that is unreachable, such as on a cliff. There they let their character endure, probably while going to work or taking a bath. Meanwhile, invaders and people who normally come to the hosts’ aid come into the world, fighting alone or returning to their own world out of frustration.

The host gets runes for every invader who is defeated or desperately gives up – without doing anything for it. This is of course nice and easy on the one hand, but spoils the fun for other people. As Teasnarker reports on Reddit:

I’ve invaded an AFK farmer in Liurnia – and I’m not lying – five damn times in a row. He’s on a cliff where you just can’t reach him.

If you want to farm runes without spoiling other people’s fun, we have tips for you:

Fan decides to troll troll

Teasnarker doesn’t want to put up with that any longer. As a countermeasure, the Elden Ring fan uses the Mimic’s Veil, an item that allows impersonating nearby objects, and uses it to hide in a bush so that the people who rushed to the host’s aid cannot find it.

Who lasts longer? The protest action requires staying power, because it is now a question of who has the longer breath – the host or the invader. By the time Teasnarker is writing the post, he says he’s been in his bush for three hours. The first people who tried to take down the invader for the host have long since given up. Teasnarker reports:

Since then I’ve seen generations of hunters and invaders come and go, and through it all, I’ve stayed in my bush. The bush is my home now. I can’t get out You can’t get me to come out. I farmed the AFK farmer AFK.

Teasnarker itself receives a reward whenever one of the people rushing to the host’s aid dies or disconnects. At the same time, the fan “can’t” leave the world himself, because otherwise the host would charge for it – and that’s exactly what he wants to avoid at all costs.

Elden Ring vs Dark Souls – Why is the new game so much more successful?

In the comments, one user jokes:

I have a feeling this is the actual backstory of how Boc [ein NPC in Elden Ring] turned into a bush.

Funny action

Of course the whole thing is quite complex and will not solve the problem in itself, but it is a funny story that is now doing the rounds and hopefully gets some people to think. Especially since the Elden Ring fan tells his story in such an entertaining way.

Teasnarker thinks that people who have enough time should follow suit and get back at the AFK farmers. The post has since garnered a lot of attention. However, the Elden Ring fan points out that free riders need to find their own bush: “This one’s mine!”

Have you also had problems with AFK rune farmers and what do you think of this funny story?
