Assassin’s Creed Valhalla review

Vikings in Britain: In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla we start out as Viking warriors in our Norwegian homeland, but soon set off for Britain to build a new empire there. We do this on the one hand through brute force, but on the other hand by fulfilling tasks for regional rulers and thus winning them over to our side. Unfortunately, the main story is rather uneventful, but Valhalla sometimes has a little more to tell in the individual regions.

New ideas, weak quests: Unfortunately, the writing of the side quests is quite disappointing, as they often don’t really fit in with the atmosphere of the rest of the game. In terms of play, however, Valhalla is solid and basically follows the recipe of its predecessors. Sneaking is again a bit more efficient than in the very combat-oriented Odyssey. There are also a few new ideas, such as raids, where we collect resources in mass battles to build up our villages.

Conclusion: The fact that we didn’t particularly like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in the test was partly due to the bugs in the release version, but also partly to the dull and sometimes silly quests. However, other critics praised it for the Viking atmosphere and the new ideas like the raids. At the current sale price you can see for yourself without risking too much.

Far Cry 6 review

In the fight against the dictator: In Far Cry 6 we go into battle against the dictator Antón Castillo in the fictional island state of Yara, which is obviously based on Cuba. Although the latter has a top-class cast with Giancarlo Esposito, known from Breaking Bad, the main story doesn’t really get going. However, we are often busy with completely different things in the large open-world playground anyway, such as side activities such as car racing, fishing or cockfighting.

Improvements and balancing issues: Otherwise, as usual, we are often busy capturing enemy bases, whereby we have many tactical options due to the many weapons, vehicles and aircraft. However, the balance is not very balanced: we are usually most effective when we just charge with our favorite weapon. But there are improvements in gunplay. For example, the crossbow, which throws enemies back far, is very satisfying. In addition, the crafting is more credibly integrated into the game.

Conclusion: Far Cry 6 is not a big step forward for the series. It does some things better, but some things are worse than its predecessor. All in all, you just get more Far Cry. So if you’re in the mood for a fun shooter set in a large open-world playground, you can’t go far wrong here. Don’t just expect a great story or major innovations.

Not so good for: All those who expect all the flaws of the originals to be corrected.

GamePro rating: 90 points

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition is now 60 percent cheaper in the PlayStation Store and therefore for 27.99 euros instead of 69.99 euros.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition: Introduced the graphical improvements of the remaster

Mass Effect Legendary Edition: Introduced the graphical improvements of the remaster

Big package with significant improvements: With the Mass Effect Legendary Edition you get Mass Effect 1 to 3 in a technically significantly revised version with more detailed textures and character models as well as new light effects. Much has also been improved on the controls and interface, which is particularly noticeable in the first part, which is difficult to bear in the original by today’s standards. You also get almost all of the 40 or so DLCs, only Pinnacle for Mass Effect 1 is missing.

Old strengths: Otherwise, of course, the Mass Effect series still offers the strengths that made it famous. Above all, the complex and exciting science fiction stories as well as the believable characters and the enormous freedom of choice should be mentioned here. From part 2 at the latest there is also successful, albeit largely conventional shooter gameplay. A few of the old weaknesses have remained, however. For example, the AI still has its dropouts.

Conclusion: If you’ve missed the Mass Effect series so far, it’s definitely worth buying the Legendary Edition. After all, you get three great action role-playing games here, which are rightly considered classics and also offer a lot of scope. But even if you already own the originals, we would recommend the Legendary Edition at least if you want to play the first part again. This is much more fun in the new version than in the original version.

The right game for: Everyone who wants an unusual shooter with creative mechanics.

Not so good for: Anyone who doesn’t want to familiarize themselves with the unusual concept.

Deathloop Test Video - The best single player shooter of the year!

Deathloop Test Video – The best single player shooter of the year!

Caught in the time warp: In Deathloop we are trapped on an island where the same day repeats itself over and over again. The only way to escape from this time loop is to kill eight people. In order to do this in one day, we have to explore the visually well-designed island and find out what time our targets will be in which place in order to finally come up with a plan. So Deathloop has certain elements of a detective game.

Shooter with tactical scope: At its core, Deathloop is still a real first-person shooter, albeit with some stealth mechanics that we already know from other games by the Arkane studio (Dishonored, Prey). In addition, the excellent level design and the various weapons and abilities that we gradually unlock and can then also use in later runs create room for different approaches.

Conclusion: While the foundation is conventional shooter gameplay, the time warp mechanics can be a bit confusing at first. But once you get used to it, Deathloop is one of the most creative and fascinating first person shooters of recent years. All those who are fed up with the monotony of current AAA titles should not miss this exceptional game.
