Starfield postponed - Bethesda's RPG hope is no longer coming in 2022

Starfield is Bethesda’s newest role-playing game, which was supposed to hit Xbox Series X/S and PC on November 11, 2022. But we have to be patient a little longer. Bethesda just announced that the release of the sci-fi RPG will be postponed.

What is the new release period? Bethesda is now aiming for a release next year, i.e. 2023. The emphasis this time is on “period”, as the studio does not announce a specific new date.

What is the reason behind the postponement of Starfield?

Bethesda does not give a specific reason for the postponement of Starfield. Between the lines of the official statement on Twitter, however, we can read that the sci-fi role-playing game simply needs more development time and is far from being at the level that Bethesda would like it to be.

“We want to make sure that you get the best and most polished versions of the two games (meaning Starfield and Redfall, ed.)”, says the statement below.

Good decision, especially if we remember the desolate state in which Fallout 76 was released back then. As an ex-employee reported a few weeks ago, Starfield is said to look pretty good at the moment, but has to struggle with some problems in terms of play: Shooting is said to be just “okay” and the flight mechanics are even “terrible”.

journalist and insider Jason Schreier spoke to some Starfield developers last spring who expressed concerns about the originally targeted release date (November 11, 2022). According to Schreier, the expression “the next Cyberpunk 2077” was used.

Incidentally, in the above Twitter post, Bethesda also announces that the release of Redfall is also being postponed. This is a new open world shooter from Arcane that was announced at E3 2021 in case you don’t remember.

What are your thoughts on the postponement and are you looking forward to Starfield?
