Playstation 4: Possible security hole discovered

Security experts have discovered a critical vulnerability in Sony’s Playstation 4 console. A driver update solution is already available.

A vulnerability in the Playstation 4’s NetBSD driver could cause problems on the console. Experts suspect that third parties thereby own Inject code fragments into the system could.
Like the website hot reported, the origin of the vulnerability is a driver used by both NetBSD and Sony. The security expert “m00nbsd” had discovered the vulnerability that could be exploited when establishing a connection.
The vulnerability has the CVE entry CVE-2022-29867 and a classification as “high risk” obtain. So far, this has only been detected on the Playstation 4, but PS5 consoles could also be affected.
Sony had already received notification of the vulnerability in September 2021 and paid m00nbsd a finder’s fee. Since then, the firmware has been updated to avoid unwanted access.
The NetBSD developers, on the other hand, released one Security Alert, in which they describe the circumstances of the vulnerability in more detail and emphasize that the kernel would ignore injected data when establishing the connection. They still recommend one Driver update.
