Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit – Youtuber brings the Unreal Engine 5 into the game

A Youtuber named “Dávid Kerekes”, on whose channel you can find videos on how to use editing programs, has uploaded a video for Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit. He is currently busy porting the levels of the almost 25-year-old game to Unreal Engine 5.

Since Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 was completed and released, videos and projects on the new engine have been piling up. It has already been used in a number of tech demos, including Batman, The Last of Us, Cyberpunk 2077 and Fortnite. A Youtuber is now going a more unusual route and has taken on a title from the late 1990s, namely Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit, which he wants to combine with the Unreal Engine 5. The Youtuber is called “Dávid Kerekes” and generally deals with various editing programs on his channel.

According to the video description, the Youtuber wants to port the levels from Need for Speed 3 to Unreal Engine 5. According to his own statements, he uses numerous modding tools for Need for Speed as well as the 3D graphics software Houdini and the programming language Python for the 3D conversion. So far, however, his progress in the project is said to be limited. The first levels he works on in Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit are “Hometown” and “Atlantica”. What catches the eye at first glance in Dávid Kereke’s UE5 video is the lighting, which is very glaring in some places.
