In Elden Ring we cover long distances and of course we prefer to do so in the saddle of our spectral steed. But how can we best encourage Stormwind to live up to its name and carry us like the wind through forested valleys and across vast plains?

Or even more important: How do we quickly put distance between powerful bosses and ourselves and can even quickly escape from the turmoil? A YouTube channel is doing the video comparison to test three ways we can spur Stormwind on.

Three methods in video comparison

It’s all about this: While in real life riders signal horses with thigh pressure to move faster, in Elden Ring we do it with button presses. If things weren’t going fast enough for you, you may have tried alternatives to simply pressing the sprint button yourself.

If you are impatient, you tend to do button mashing. But does spurring Stormwind with key hammers really make Stormwind move, or is it just animation that makes it seem that way? Or maybe just holding the button makes the most sense? The game doesn’t tell us that. The YouTube channel Last Protagonist, which is mainly dedicated to Bloodborne lore, dedicates a video to the question, which you can watch here:

This can be seen: Last Protagonist sends three spectral horses into a race against each other. The first involves pressing the key only once, the second holding it, and the third hammering it.

While the first two crossed the finish line in 19.58 seconds (or rather, fell to their deaths at the end of the course), the Steed, being constantly pounded, made it in 17.38 seconds.

The proof: So if you’ve had the feeling that your horned horse runs the fastest when you’re constantly annoying it, but you weren’t sure, here’s the proof. So if you want to get out of a tricky situation particularly quickly – for example, put distance between you and the dragon at Lake Agheel – or simply not lose any time on your journey, you can use this knowledge.

How do you ride through the inland? Always impatient and maybe already with a hammered sprint button or quite comfortably?
